Misleading

I agree with many of the reviews on here that point on the flaws with the 5-star ratings. I really wanted to like this book, I really did. Anything about Mayans and temples and archaelogy and the like is something I typically enjoy reading. But the writing in this book is sooooooo clunky that I finally gave up. It was just too frustrating to try to read. There was one flaw after another, both in the logic of the story and the words used to share the story.
I really think this would be an interesting book with some SERIOUS editing. Right now, though, it is just irritating.

Interesting premise, poor execution

I'm not sure if it's the Kindle edition but the book is in dire need of a proofreader - not to mention the outright mistakes in character names. It's a bit jarring to have a supposedly American cast of characters spouting particularly British phrases, as well as British spelling (i.e., "favourite" instead of "favorite"). That said, while the premise is interesting and it has the potential to be an extremely good read with some polishing, there is a reason the prioe is 99 cents. I did finish the book, but it was a struggle to get to the end. Do not think it's worth a full 3 stars - more like 2.5.

Falls Into the "Worst Book" Category

I don't know who wrote the 5 star reviews - must have been friends & family. I over paid for this book at $.99. A few of the highlights:
1. The author is obviously British but the book takes place in the US. If an author is going to write a book based in a country besides his/her own, the author should know something about the country - like nothing happens in the US whilst we are doing something else, although something might happen WHILE we are doing something else; no one in the US has ever spelt a work incorrectly, although I'm sure many people have SPELLED a word incorrectly; no US native US citizen has learnt anything in school, although plenty have LEARNED many things.
2. In the US our parks are built for PEOPLE; therefore, we do not have car parks. We park our cars in parking garages, parking ramps, parking lots, etc. but NEVER a car park.
3. The author seems to believe that the US, Mexico & Guatemala are just one big country - or else maybe Mexico & Guatemala have WMD's and the US has invaded. Frankly, I couldn't tell what country the action was taking place in most of the time.
4. No US citizen has ever knelt to the President - or at least I hope no one ever has. Apparently, the author thinks we view the President as - well - just another monarch.
5. In addition to all of the above, the book was written at less than a middle school level - bad descriptions, inconceivable actions, cardboard characters, etc. Most of the time I had a hard time figuring out what was going on - except when US troops were in Mexico & Guatelmala. Given our recent wars that really got my attention.
6. In the book the US President can't trust anyone but one general (branch of service unknown) and so this general is tasked with taking down a very large drug cartel. Really? No DEA? No FBI? No CIA running black ops in another country? Nope - just one general with a few - very few - secret operatives - maybe a handful. And yet - the drug cartel is busted...
I could go on and on about how bad this book is. Take my advice - avoid this book like the plague. The bad writing, inconsistent characters and story line and humanly impossible situations will just make you rue the day you decided to waste $.99 on a really, really bad book.

Wonderful read. Read it twice. The twisting plots and turns found me thinking about the stories progress and possible outcomes when not engaged with reading the book. What an active and exciting kind you have Sue. Have to figure out which book of yours to ear next. You remind me of a younger Clive Cussler. Does anything else need to be said? Thanks for the great read. Any chance our main characters will show up again? Soon I hope.
