Combining interesting explanations with 3-dimensional models to cut out and glue together, this book is an exploration of the symmetries of Escher's plane tilings. Some designs fold to make polyhedra and there is the delight in how the motifs fit together at the vertices and along the edges. Others make into kaleidocycles, models of linked tetrahedra which will turn thru their centers. As they are rotated Escher's interlocking patterns form and reform in endless procession. It is said that 'everyone loves surprizes' and this book is full of them --このテキストは、ペーパーバック版に関連付けられています。
I would say that for a 10 year old, there are too many words. Actually for a dude that just wanted folding tricks for his daughter - there are also too many words! We got through the first couple pages and just started tearing out pages to fold.
However, there is some great text if the art is more your thing!
In any case, with that said, we definitely got our money worth after spending a half an hour folding one piece with my baby girl. Only word of caution, these things are made of heavy duty paper stock. Do not soccer punt the decidonatorhexagon (12 sided dice thingee?) thing, it hurts and will bruise your foot!
Just so you know, a complete set has 17 full-color models and 57 page booklet.
you must buy paper, to make the sketch..to draw etc...but the images?''
