The main reason I wanted this bag was it fit's (almost) Ryan air carry on size, but I doubt it would ever be challenged. Hope so because of the weight. it is a standard back back, but the main feature is of course the wheels. As an OAP having to carry all that weight would be impossible, I have a number of long haul bucket list photographic holidays booked, this is going to be a life saver. Update I bought at £270 now on sale for £148, bought at reduced price, returned the old (only 12days old) and got refund, saving £120. -- A SNIP AT £148 Having used on many long haul trips now, the wheels are a real blessing, but it does add to the weight if you want to use as a backpack. I'm thinking now the normal Pro runner and seperate wheels that just attach would give the same benefit. I have the 350 pro tactic though now which is a perfect balance of size / weight when full. I take a collapsible Tenba with a removable insert when using the 450, then just take what I need for day to day from the 450. The Tenba insert is quite rigid but great for lots of bits that need protection during a flight. If I was to buy now it would be the 450 Pro tactic and seperate wheels, if it was at a similar reduced price.
It also had a Thinkpad 12" Laptop on this trip and could easily have swallowed the 2 Kindles though I packed these in a separate bag as this was pushing the bag close to the max. depth for the overheads. It popped in easily on BA Airbus 320. Only used as a wheelie or carried by the stout handle. The straps were available to use but I had removed the waist straps as was not planning to use in this way. We used an old smaller backpack camera bag for the steep climbs and bell towers. This was OK but the Lowepro allow two of us to deploy cameras with lens attached a lot quicker as it can accommodate a large zoom lens, beyond my Canon EF semi-pro 70-300, ready to go, while perfectly protected. The smaller bag doubled the lens changing. I have also allocated pockets for documents, passports, batteries, etc. A great camera bag!
Feels very high quality and well engineered. lot of dividers come with it too, sometimes I've found bags wanting in that dept.
And its great that it can roll, a full kit and laptop&bits gets very heavy, very quickly.
Only thing, for my height (5'9"), the bottom can bump base of my spine (and its very stiff plastic here for protection), i guess they can't pad it because of the rolling. I wrap a jumper round me which helps.
Also, the top computer bit bulges quite quickly, makes it hard to carry a tripod as they have it.
Do miss a water bottle holder, but I did make one out a lens case, theres plenty of places to hang one off.
You do need to tuck straps away to roll it.
None of those really detract from
none of these real problems that detract from a very cavernous piece of kit, thats very well made and looks pretty swish compared to some of the other bags out there.
if you want a roller bag without having the stiff box like ones, and also want to be able to backpack a lot of kit. bit of a no brainer
BUT it's one weak point is the handle and I fear that the same will happen to this bag too in which case I will switch makes. The handle does not feel solid or durable. It feels like a weak point that is the most likely point on the case to suffer a fault. I am treating this second one with a lot of caution and NEVER lifting it by the handle and wheeling it only whilst using it. I am hoping that this will prolong its life.
Yes it is expensive, but the quality is very good indeed.
However, after 3 months the handle has given up. Completely ceased. So will be absolutely no use for air travel.
BUT sadly there is a BUT, the pulling handle is weak and broke 3 months after we started using this bag for work. Off course the return window is over and there is no way to talk to the seller to see how it can be fixed/replaced.
So a bag with great promise but I would suggest a stronger pulling handle -maybe a double one instead?
There aren’t many bags like this out there...
