I don't believe Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor (Lorde) and Joel Little can make a subpar-->average album. It's just impossible when these two creative forces join. I have been absolutely impressed by the production of both the EP and LP. Lorde, who seems to have control of her musical direction, comes across (to me) as an intelligent musician who has capitalized success through extremely simple and, at times, meaningless lyrics...all of which make her style, delivery and onstage performance palatable when combined with Little's sounds.
I cautiously want to state that at this stage I believe a lot of of other artists could have succeeded in Lorde's place with Little backing them on similar tracks. That does not detract from obviously high rating of this EP as I have tried, but cannot, quit playing the album over and again.
My hope is that, as Lorde matures, she will focus more on lyrical content and less on her external image and stage performances which is currently her biggest draw. I do trust that this will occur and I look forward to her work in the future!
