俳優もやる器用なポップラッパー（ジムキャリーのエースベンチュラなど）の出世作。日本のラッパーが現在このアルバムのレベルかも。ビースティーボーイズの「ライセンスト　イル」を楽しめる人ならストライクゾーンかも。黒人であることが過小評価されている原因かも。ぶっといベースラインを土台にスクラッチかませているのがかなり懐かしい。またこのアルバムはダストブラザースのプロデュース作品としても位置づけることができるだろう。ダストブラザースの楽曲はかなり「ディジー感」が濃厚。ファイトクラブのサントラに興味を持った人なら聞いてみてはいかが、過激なサンプリングが聞くものを幻惑させること間違いない。このアルバムもプロデューサーがかなり重要であることを教えてくれる好サンプル。（８）

I liked rapper Tone-Loc a lot; I liked 'On Fire' (Remix) and I finally learned the name of the song he sampled ('You Got The Love' by Chaka Khan and Rufus); of course I loved 'Wild Thing' very much (a classic for sure!); I also liked 'Loced After Dark' which interpolates The Blackbyrds' song 'Rock Creek Park' as well as 'I Got It Goin' On' which samples Tom Browne's 'Funkin' For Jamaica'; 'Cutting Rhythms' samples Barry White's 'I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Babe', Sir Paul Mc Cartney and Wings' song 'Band on the Run' as well as Gary Wright's 'My Love Is Alive'; 'Funky Cold Medina' samples Foreigner's 'Hot Blooded' (good song); 'Next Episode' was 'okay' as well as 'Cheeba Cheeba' sampling Rick James' song 'Mary Jane'; 'Don't Get Close', 'Loc'in On The Shaw' and 'The Homies' were also 'okay' rap songs. Way too much sampling and this CD is not for the kiddies due to very strong language and no 'Parental Advisory'label on the CD! I listened to this CD on cassette back in the day (LOL)!!!

I'm probably one of the few fans of Tone-Loc that listened to, and enjoyed, every single song on this album (...back in the day), not just the hits. I used to have the cassette when this album first came out, and played it in my car CONSTANTLY (...when I wasn't playing my Milli Vanilli cassette). Nevertheless, I had long since been wanting the original CD version, which apparently has long since been out of print. So, I immediately purchased this edition the moment I was aware of its release. I was so excited to hear these songs again, especially the previously unreleased material, and couldn't wait to receive it in the mail.

However, I have an issue with this particular release of "Loc-Ed After Dark (Deluxe Edition)". That is; whenever I purchase new CD's, the FIRST thing I do is rip the tracks to FLAC files so that I may enter it into my digital library in order to listen to it on my computer's media player (...and now on my new Samsung Galaxy S4). But this CD apparently has some sort of COPY PROTECTION that prevented me from being able enjoy the music in the way I usually do. At first I thought there was a defect with the CD itself (...as EAC, Exact Audio Copy, kept reporting errors on the disc), so I contacted the seller for a replacement, but the seller informed me that I was not able to rip from the CD due to COPY PROTECTION, and basically accused me of trying to pirate the CD for distribution on the Internet (...which has never been my intention).

Incidentally, there is no information or statement in regards to COPY PROTECTION listed anywhere on the packaging or in the advertisement of this CD. Had there been, I would not have purchased it. Nevertheless, I think it's important to make this undisclosed feature of the CD known, in the event that other people expect to be able to rip copies from the CD for the same purpose that I had intended. When I purchase a CD, I feel I should be able to make it available to any listening device that I own. I use MediaMonkey on my computer, to manage my library, to create playlists, and it is my preferred method for listening to music because my system's setup produces phenomenal sound. For those reasons, this CD was largely useless to me, which is why I only gave it two stars.

Such a great CD. The music is rap but it’s early rap. Not the hard beating tempo and words that you don’t understand. Wonderful songs and music. I wonder whatever happened to the artist?? Give this a try, it won’t disappoint.

Of course Wildthing will forever be tied to Tone Loc and unfortunately tied to what people will remember when it comes to his music. It wasn't until a friend made me listen to this album in its entirety that I became a fan as it is surprisingly different from his hip 'pop' hits. It's a brilliantly produced album that screams west side hip hop and bangs out musicality that bumbs. It's my rollin dirty soundtrack as it sounds lit with deep bass and loud highs. Check it out. I dare you not to like it.
