Uチューンライブを見てハスキーな低音と澄んだ高音に魅了されました。輸入盤なので曲目がわかりにくく、迷ったあげくLightsとBrights Lights購入。前半のだぶった曲も満足だけど、Bright Lightsだけに入っている曲の方が好きなので、星をひとつ減点しました。Lightsの購入を検討してしている方は、Bright Lightsがお勧めです。

沢山あるのでドレから入手していいのか、、悩みます。
とりあえずコレと「Delirium (Deluxe)」を掘ってみた・・
両方とも当たりっぽい。力強く美しい。
全体的に明るくポップでややエレクトロ、嫌いなジャジー感は一切ない。
通して聞いて疲れません、とても心地よく音が流れます。
次はドレを入手すれば良いのか・・
Your Biggest Mistakeが良かった。

2000年代終盤から10年代初頭にかけて相次いで登場したUK女性エレポップ・アーティストたち（代表格はラ・ルー、フローレンス、リトル・ブーツなど）。
本作を引っ提げて2010年に華々しくデビューしたエリー・ゴールディングは、そういったムーヴメントの中にあって、最もしんがりに登場してきた最後の大物といったイメージの人であり、本国では今やすっかりポップスターの仲間入りを果たしています。
であるだけでなく、USにおいても、シングル「LIGHTS」が大ヒットを記録（本作US盤M1収録となっています）し、知名度を更に上昇させました。
欧米音楽シーンで、現在最も勢いのある女性SSWの一人である、と言っていいでしょう。

で、このデビューフルレングスの音楽的特徴なのですが、基本的にエレポップ・サウンドであることに異論はないのですが、「フォークトロニカ」などとも形容されることがあるように、かなりフォーキーな部分が加味されたユニークな音作りとなっています。今流行りのEDM路線、クラブ・オリエンテッド路線のものとは、明らかに方向性が異なっています。
極めて英国的なセンスが、換言すればある意味理知的なセンスが、作品全体を通じて放出されており、決して肉感的な音ではありません。
例えば、初期のビョークが持っていたポップネスを、更に噛み砕いて大衆化し、聴き易くした作品である、といったところでしょうか（若干語弊がある表現ではありますが）。とても格調高くエレガントな音像であると言っていいでしょう。
何れにせよ、ここにあるのは極めて透明感のあるドリーミーで美麗な音世界であり、聴いていてその世界観にグイグイと引き込まれていきます。
個人的には、非常に優秀な傑作デビュー盤であると感じさせられました。

また、彼女のシンガーとしての魅力にも素晴らしいものがあると思いました。
パワフルで、ソウルフルで、そしてエモーショナルなヴォーカルを、持ち前のクリーン＆クリアなハイトーンヴォイスで心地良く響かせています。
表現力の方も、申し分ありません。

ヴィジュアル面におけるアイドル的要素が希薄なためか、我が国においての認知度はかなり低めとなっていますが、聴いて頂ければその魅力は十二分に伝わると思います。
今後の活躍にも大いに期待したいと思います。

Ellie Gouldingの1stアルバムです。
彼女はイギリスの出身で、むこうではデビュー前から期待の新人としてマスコミに取り上げられていたみたいです。
私はニュージーランドにいたときに、シングルで出ていた＃３「Starry Eyed」が気に入っていたので、アルバム買いました★
声は可愛い感じです。
曲も悪くないんですが、＃３の衝撃が大きすぎて、全体的にもうちょっと違う曲がほしいかなって印象ですね。
でもまだまだ若い新人さんなので、これからの期待を込めて★４つです！
みなさんも是非聴いてみてくださいッ♪

BBC発表、2010年期待の新人第1位となったEllie Gouldingのデビューアルバム。
正直期待していたほどではありませんでした。

一曲一曲は確かに良いと思える物が多いのですが、
本格デビュー前に売りにしていた『Folktronica』はどこへ？といった感じ。
内容は簡単に言ってしまえば、売れ線のエレポップです。
聴きやすい音楽ではありますが、耳の肥えたリスナーさんはあまり満足できないのではないでしょうか。

これだったらほぼ同時期にデビューした、
2010年期待の新人第2位のMarina & The Diamondsの方が良いなぁ。。。

I'm going backwards listening to Ellie's remarkable talent. I started with her performance on Zedd's Clarity.
I think Rapunzel arranged to have Ellie's voice spun from gold. I am most definitely a Gouldigger.

Ellie can maneuver her voice like few others that I've heard, and it's a gorgeous instrument.
On occasion I'll see comments about her that aren't screaming excitement. I feel that although it would seem
that she generally is playing to a younger crowd, (I'm certainly not in her demographic), her voice and ability
are based on the talent and expression of someone far beyond her years.

Careful, you can get hooked on Ellie Goulding's material.
BIG fan.

(Adding 6/1: After just a few listens, not anywhere near as many as I'd planned by this point I can say this;
if you don't give this album 4+ stars, regardless of comparisons to her own work, even excluding Lights from
the mix....then you're not really an Ellie fan. She sings EDM and the like, and people complain about over production
on her voice, and either her or her management's fear of her voice. That's so illogical and shows naivete about the
genre. This is a beautiful, serenading, and celebratory album showing a nice range of her capability. It IS on the
poppy side sometimes. Don't blame her music for trying to be popular. Her voice is angelic at times.)

A recent Entertainment Weekly article told the tortoise-like tale of success of Ellie Goulding's "Lights" (the single, not the album) and how it had slowly percolated upwards both in the charts and public consciousness. It reached #2 in the Billboard Hot 100 well after a year of its US release. EW attributed this success to word of mouth, social media and the plain fact that it's an addictive, joyful song. It exemplifies the singer/songwriter's neat mix of folk and electronica.

However, I'd like to think that people discovered Ms. Goulding the same way we did: as devotees of the BBC (and BBC America) we perked up whenever we heard previews for their Olympics coverage (under the banner of "London Calling") and wondered: what's this great song they've chosen? Answer: Lights. Even though I now own the CD and have listened to it straight through dozens of times, I still get a thrill when it comes on TV. It never tires.

The rest of the material on 'Lights' measures up to the title track's high standards...save the 'bonus track' - Goulding's take on Elton John's "This Song." I simply hit the 'next track' button on that one. In particular, the stretch taking the listener from "This Love" to "Under the Sheets" through to the sublime "The Writer" makes for 12 minutes of pure enjoyment

Ellie Goulding's CD was on my wish list when "Your Song" came on the "Love Machine" episode of SyFy channel's series "Haven" from Season 2. My daughter was watching and demanded that I get the disc immediately. Goulding's voice on the classic Elton John melody is fragile and shows off the singer's ability, "I hope you don't mind I put down in words how wonderful life is now you're in the world." Glad I did! The title track is entrancing with its throbbing synth beat and buoyant chorus, "You show the lights that stop me, turn to stone." Likewise "Starry Eyed" resonates with me, mining the same emotional vein with an insistent beat and just enough lyric to support the music, "So we burst into colours and carousels." Other tracks like "Under the Sheets," "Animal" & "Your Biggest Mistake" are strong. This is a great set from one of Britain's brightest new lights. Enjoy!
