本アルバムは『 Love Song/Highly Prized Possession 』と同じく、アン・マレーの前期スタジオ・アルバムの『Let's Keep It That Way』（７８年）及び『New Kind of Feeling』（７９年）のカップリングＣＤである。何れのアルバムもアン・マレーのミュージック・シーンにおいて、ベスト３に入る作品と言えるアルバムの１パッケージであり、個別のＣＤが入手しにくいようなので本ＣＤは貴重だろう。フィーチャー・ナンバーについて前者から観ていくと、シングル・カットされ彼女のビッグ・ヒットとなったフォーク・スタイルのバラード「You Needed Me」、カントリー・ポップの「I Still Wish the Very Best」、タイトル・ナンバーでカントリー・バラード・テイストの「Let's Keep It That Way」、ジャッキー・デシャノン（共作）のオリジナル・バラード「Just to Feel This Love From You」（『 You're the Only Dancer 』・７７年）をほぼ踏襲したカバー、アメリカン・オールディーズの名曲で日本では江利チエミのカバーでヒットした「Tennessee Waltz」等が注目だろう。後者では、コンテンポラリー・バラード・テイストでカバーしたバディ・ホーリーの「Raining in My Heart」（５９年）、カントリー・ポップ・テイストの「Shadows in the Moonlight」、ソウル・ポップな「You've Got What it Takes」、８ビートでソフト・ロック・スタイルの「That's Why I Love You」等が印象的なナンバーである。何れのアルバムもフォーク・カントリー・ポップ・バラードのメジャー・メロディで構成されており、アン・マレーの特徴が良く活かされている。

このアルバムはアン・マレーの最大ヒットとなった”You Needed Me”を含む1978年の一枚と1979年のアルバムをカップリングした2in1のもの。名曲中の名曲”You Needed Me”のほか”Walk Right Back”, “I Just Fall In Love Again”, “Shadows In The Moonlight”,”Rainin’ In My Heart”など佳曲はいくつかあり楽しめるが、捨て曲もあり、全体の仕上がりではイマイチの感を否めない。アン・マレーのＣＤを初めてコレクションに加えようかと検討しているのなら、このＣＤはセカンドチョイスとすべきである。

２in１のアルバムでアン・マレーがしっとりとした大人の女声を聴かせてくれます。最大のシングルヒット「YouNeededMe」は勿論一番の名曲で、愛する人に去られた主人公の悲しみが伝わってきます。テネシーワルツなどのカバー曲も素直な解釈で彼女の歌声を味わわせてくれます。目を閉じてじっくり聴くのもいいし、読書のバックグラウンドにもいいですね。派手さはありませんが、ゆっくりとした雰囲気を創ってくれますし、癒しにもなります。秋に聴くと一番良さそう。

Volume 6 of "The Signature Series" offers 2 of Anne's Best Selling studio albums. "Let's Keep It That Way" from 1978 and "New Kind Of Feeling" from 1979. Both albums were awarded "Platinum Record Sales Awards", selling over 1 million copies each. Anne had just returned to the studio, after taking some time off to have her first child. This time out, Anne wanted to focus on an ALL Country album. While working with a new producer, Jim Ed Norman. The 2 set out to fulfill her quest. The first single released was a remake of the "Everly Brothers" hit, "Walk Right Back. Anne's version hit all 3 charts, POP- #104, AC- #15 and COUNTRY- # 4. The next single, "You Needed Me" quickly climbed all 3 charts. Landing at # 1 on the POP, # 3 on the AC and # 4 COUNTRY. "You Needed Me" became Anne's second GOLD single, (selling more than 1 million copies). "Snowbird" being the first GOLD single for Anne. The other 8 album cuts on "Let's Keep It That Way" are sensational. Anne delivers the best remake ever on "Patti Page's" hit, "The Tennessee Waltz". Equally impressive are "There's Always A Goodbye" and "You're A Part Of Me".

Next up is an excellent follow up album "New Kind Of Feeling". The first single, "I Just Fall In Love Again" races up all 3 charts, landing at # 12 POP- # 1 AC for 4 weeks and # 1 COUNTRY for 3 weeks. The 2nd single, "Shadows In The Moonlight" reached # 25 POP- # 1 AC, for 3 weeks and # 1 COUNTRY for 3 weeks. The remaining 8 tracks are all amazing. Anne continues her string of Sensitive Love Songs with, "Take This Heart", "Heaven Is Here", For No Reason At All" and "Yucatan Cafe".

Anne was at the pinnacle of her career with these 2 releases. Anne would continue to release HIT singles and Albums for some time to come. Although many critics claim these 2 albums as her BEST ever. That may be true to some extent. But, many of her later releases...such as "Croonin", "Country Croonin" and "What A Wonderful World" are equally as impressive.

These album's are some of Anne's most endearing ~ and every song is a great listen ~
but here also are some of the most iconic tracts of her career.
Two songs charted from this L.P. ~ their here and 2 B-sides.
1. Walk right back.
2. You needed me ~ B/W ~ I still wish the very best for you.
3. (of a song not yet released) the B-side ~ Just to feel this love from you.

There are very few songs as truly romantic and bonding as 'You needed me'
and on the same album with 'Just to feel this love from you' ~ that's 6 min 48 seconds of pure love & dedication.
'Lets keep it that way' is an especially good song ~ and Murray brings new life to the classics ~
Walk right back ~ Hold me tight ~ and ~ The Tennessee waltz.

'NEW KIND OF FEELING' ~ Murray's 12th L.P. Originally released in 1979.
This is an out-standing album! Again including some of Murray's most romantic tracks.
The beautiful ~ 'I just fall in love again' ~ 'For no reason at all' ~
and the up-tempo ~ 'That's why I love you'.
She has an excellent cover of ~ 'You got what it takes

Two songs charted ~ their here and one B-side
1. I just fall in love again.
2. Shadows in the moonlight ~ B/W ~ Yucatan cafe.

These two L.P.'s started a more definite transition leaning more to pop/country ~ rather then folk/country.
This set is pure pleasure.
These albums are digitally remastered and have excellent sound.

Anne Murray has been and is an enormous talented C&W singer whose peek
years of success were during the late 70's and early 80's. These two
albums released in 1978 and 1979 were her most successful ones and
now we have them on 1 CD. Can we ask for more? No just impossible.
To me the first song on this CD (Let's Keep It That Way) is one of
the most beautiful country songs ever although it was not a very big
success. Her "You Needed Me", however, became a # 1 song on the
Billboard Top 100 and was a "crossover" hit everywhere.
She kept on making hits and for a non-american country artist (She's
Canadian like Shania today) having 29 albums on the Billboard LP
Pop Charts + all she scored on the C&W charts is hard to accomplish.
If you're a country fan or just dig nice music, this twofer is an
absolute item to be part of your private music collection.

Those of us who grew up in the 70s with vinyl and 8-track never dreamed the day would come when our albums would be unavailable or unplayable anymore. How wonderful that Anne Murray's albums have been remastered onto cds.

Greatest hits are nice, but don't always contain all the songs you love by an artist. These two albums contain some great songs that I haven't been able to listen to in years. That silky voice singing some of her best songs during her Jim Ed Norman produced years.

What a treasue to have these albums on cd.
