内容紹介

200,000 kilometers in 3,000 days across five continents. Or in other words, just 66 kilometers a day on average which is quite enough for a 30-year-old Land Rover.Amidst the Scottish Highlands, battered by the elements, stands a neglected Land Rover. It does not seem to be the ideal vehicle for a trip around the world, but Christopher Many believes otherwise. He has the dream of embarking on a tour de force to the frozen wastelands of Siberia, North and South America, and across the continent of Africa equipped with little more than a passport, credit card and full tank of petrol. His goal? To explore strange new worlds and boldly go where no Land Rover has gone before. Intelligently and with perseverance, Christopher scours the globe from Mongolia to Somaliland to find out what makes the earth tick . Soon enough the adventure turns into a sprawling n-dimensional tapestry of philosophical conundrums, rollercoaster emotions and first-hand observations in 100 countries. When he pulls on a few loose threads, a Pandora s box of information is released, often at odds with conventional Western views. Christopher returns eight years later exhausted, snake-bitten and malaria-infected but with a few prized cogwheels in his knapsack, a greater understanding of the world we live in, and with the love of his life. Equal parts sophisticated lexicon on global affairs and darkly witty travel chronicle, his book presents a vivid picture of the adventures, agonies and joys of world travel, and asks some very uncomfortable questions truly going where few have gone before . Take a ride in Matilda s passenger seat next to this vagabonding philosopher, provided you are not in a rush ..."

レビュー

This is a witty travel chronicle, an unvarnished view of the world, a tapestry of philosophical conundrums, a roller coaster of emotions, and learning survival skills along the way. Mapping Megan.com

5つ星のうち 3.0 Not much information on his Land Rover or his day to day activities to help anyone follow in his footsteps 2016/9/10

So I was hoping for more insight into the logistics and the set up of his vehicle. This is lacking on day to day insight and is more geared to his personal point of view. He holds his home country in very high regard and has a definite slant against the United States. He basis this on his distaste for the Iraq war which is warranted but glosses over the wars started by his own country.

His writing style was easy to follow along and I applaud him for such an epic journey and the stones to pull something like this off. I was not looking for a how to, but would have like more detail into the "how" he put his travels together.

Although I am sure he had an amazing trip for other books, I will stop at this one.
5つ星のうち 5.0 The book was well written and i enjoyed it all 2016/9/14

The book was well written and i enjoyed it all, the political views, truthfulness, adventure, cultural bashing(and appreciation in equal measure) and occasional laugh out loud humour. It really shows how comfortable he is expressing himself no matter the context. His great sense of adventure is amazing and admirable. Siberia was probably the best part of the book. The Sudan experience was a surprise. Thank you for sharing your trip.

*Disclaimer - i am Landy Fan - that is what i attracted me to this book - and i was not disappointed - can’t wait for the next book Christopher Many.

5つ星のうち 4.0 A good read 2016/3/13

It is difficult to put into words my feelings about this book. Many subjects are discussed and I am unsure how much I agree and how much not.
Regardless how you feel about the political views and thoughts mentioned, the book is well written ( only a few grammatical errors) and enjoyable.
The author takes you along on his eight year journey by providing snapshots that highlight the path along his trail. Between these snapshots are commentary and thoughts relating to the places he is currently at.

5つ星のうち 1.0 I have read at least 500 travel documentaries and this is by far one of the worst. Full of pretension 2017/3/13

How this ever got published is beyond my horizon. I have read at least 500 travel documentaries and this is by far one of the worst. Full of pretension, the author skims over scenery and experience to blabber on about all things right to him. Little if anything is gained for the reader. I had to finally put it down before the chapter on Africa. I couldn't stand it; each page adding to the misery. I do not recommend this book.

SUPERB writing stile, fascinating and captivating story of a very different traveler. No high testosterone BS. Just beautifully written travel story that will stick with you for long time.
