Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1973 album. MFSB (Mother Father Sister Brother) were the house band for Philadelphia International and worked closely with the production team of Gamble & Huff. They backed up groups such as Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, the O'Jays, the Stylistics, the Spinners, Wilson Picket and Billy Paul. They also had hits of their own, including the massively successful 'T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia' (included on this album).

創設から５０年が経過し、この１年余りフィラデルフィア・インターナショナル・レコード（以下PIR）の名盤をボックス化したものが英国で限定発売されています。このアルバムはそれに収録となっていますが、このレーベルのテーマソングというだけでなく、米国の有名黒人音楽番組「ソウルトレイン」のテーマソングでもある5）TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)が収録されています。
このグループ名MFSBはMother Father Sister Brotherの略。またこのPIRの裏方ミュージシャン集団がこのグループそのものです。流麗なストリングスとホーンセクションを配した完全無比な演奏。
彼等のアルバムは全７枚のリーダー作がありますが、全てＣD化されている訳ではなく、近時の米国盤はCD-Rというお粗末な状況です。故に購入するなら英国盤か日本盤のリイシューがおススメです。

MFSB's "Love Is The Message" album was released in 1975 on Philadelphia International Records just as the Sound of Philadelphia and the genious of Gamble and Huff was dominating America. The album doesn't disappoint. Filled with lush R&B mid tempo grooves and sophisticated Disco, backed by angelic vocals of Three Degrees and strings that G&H were known for, this is the quintessential mid 70's R&B album. Backed by the one two punch of the title track and "TSOP(The Sound Of Philadelphia)" with backing vocals by Three Degrees, both became across the board # 1 smashes and found a loyal following at Disco's during the early days of the emerging Disco trend. The rest of the album is jazzy and sleek R&B and is pure joy. "Cheaper To Keep Her", "My One And Only Love" and "Bitter Sweet" are silky smooth R&B grooves that have a jazzy feel to them and the band's beautiful take on Diana Ross' "Touch Me In The Morning" rounds out the album. If taken as a whole and not just the sum of its parts, the album is richly satisfying and sounds as romantic and beautiful today as it did 40 years ago.

Thanks to Big Break Records for giving this gem the deluxe re-mastering treatment that it deserves. As is always the case with any BBR re-master, the sound is great and the liner notes are interesting and telling. The album's original album cover art front and back is preserved as well. The title track and "TSOP(The Sound Of Philadelphia)" are also presented here in their rare Extended 12" Dance Versions Tom Moulton Mixes as Bonus Tracks. Title track is also available in this re-master in its Single Version as an additional Bonus Track. A must have for any collector of early 70's R&B.

From the beginning MFSB sent out a message of being able to achieve musical excellence as an instrumental group act. The made a strong statement as being the foundation of TSOP. MFSB delivered a musical telegram demanding to be recognized as a center stage act, no longer standing in the shadows. A versatile act that was comfortable playing jazz, pop, standards, soul and rhythm & blues. This Sony Music re-release on CD has the correct track listing that matches the order you will hear being played. And like some other Sony Music Legacy releases, there is no background information or original liner notes. Just good listening music.

Besitze die Platte aus den 1970ern. Zu der Zeit war der sogenannte MFSB-Sound, auch Philly -Sound genannt, sehr erfolgreich. War lange meine Lieblingsplatte. Mich hat gefreut, dass das Label BBR so viele "alte musikalische Schätze" wieder veröffentlicht, wie auch dieses Album. Eine Mischung aus Jazz, Soul und Fusion. Highlight für mich nach wie vor "Touch me in the morning." Oft gecovert und hier in einer relaxten Instrumental-Version. An dieser Stelle mal ein Dank an das Label. Es sind immer die Songs der Original-Alben drauf und oft Bonustracks mit Langversionen an die man immer schon schwer dran kam. Auch die Booklets sind sehr ausführlich mit vielen Infos über die Künstler und deren Werdegang. Toll! Hoffe, es wird noch viele Alben des Labels geben. Nachtrag. Habe kürzlich entdeckt, dass mein Kommentar auch bei der LP-Version angezeigt wird. Ist schon irritierend, dass Rezensionen bei allen Varianten eines Artikels angezeigt werden. Meine Rezension bezieht sich auf die CD-Veröffentlichung BBR Records 2012.
