MIDSTREAM/DEBBY BOONE、LOVE HAS NO REASON/SAVIN' IT UPと併せて三枚を同時購入。
アルバム曲で好きなit's just a matter of timeは姉妹のCherryが作った曲。
You light up my life Love has no reason

I first heard the title track many years ago, and loved it. I didn't buy the LP, but as this 40th Anniversary edition includes some of the Motown tracks that the Boones recorded, I have bought it. Listening to the original LP, I am amazed just how good the whole LP is.
I didn't know that Karen Carpenter had been offered this track and she refused, so it was offered to Debby Boone.
There are a number of tracks which appear to be in a similar vein to the title, but are so good. A number of the tracks are very well known 'from me to you' is the Beatles, but Debby's version is actually rather surprisingly good. She becomes quite soulful on 'baby I'm yours' (the Van McCoy song). Interestingly, there is an early Supremes single included 'when the lovelight starts shining through his eyes', but Debby's version is very different, quite slow, and becomes a ballad. I love the version of Skeeter Davis' 'the end of the world'.
Another track I didn't know Debby had recorded, is 'Hasta Manana' which most of us will know because of ABBA (who of course wrote it).
Overall, it's a collection of different styles of music, but Debby - 40 years ago - recorded an LP of excellent tracks. The additional tracks includes a good version of 'he's a rebel', and more Motown tracks (Mary Wells) 'my guy', the first number one on Tamla (The Marvelettes) "please Mr Postman", Paul Anka's 'put your head on my shoulder', Lesley Gore's "you don't own me" - another track which I think Debby has sung so very well.
There are 25 tracks on this 40th Anniversary - and every one I really have enjoyed listening. I wonder why it's taken me 40 years to realise how good Debby Boone really was as a recording artist.
I'm so glad this finally came out. I worn the album out years ago but some songs were on YT. I listened to "It's just a matter of time" over and over to get me through the hardest mid to late teen years. At that age I wanted to be wholesome happy Debby Boone. Of course over the years I've realized she's had her struggles same as anyone and her sisters have really had some challenges, bless their hearts. The harmonies on the songs are so clear, perky and spot on and they still stir the hope for the future and the optimism I had back then. I've just recently fulfilled most of my dreams from that time and it took 40 years. This re release is good timing although I longed for this during the hard years. The extra songs are from an era before mine, but they are a nice throw in. As a side note, in that song "It's just a matter of time" the words in it mostly came true for me and I'm still married to my young man that I knew back then. I may wear out the cd listening to it again!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this CD re-issue! Fantastic collection of songs, and the rarities are wonderful. Long over-due!
I do question one statement in the CD booklet, though. It states that the MGM single of “You Don’t Own Me” / “Friend” was scrapped and lists “You Don’t Own Me” as a previously unreleased track. That cannot be correct, for I have had a copy of that 45 for decades! I purchased it around 1978, not too long after “YLUML” had become a hit. I was on a quest at that point to own all of Debby’s previous singles, so my aunt, who owned the local record store, ordered several singles from an “oldies / cut-out” record supplier for me. “You Don’t Own Me” / “Friend” was one of them… I still have it after all these years. I also recall that the old Debby Boone Fan Club out of Reading PA sold some of The Boones’ older 45’s, and they also offered the record… Perhaps it was only issued in a limited release, or maybe a handful of copies got out??? Can anyone shed light on this matter?
