ベスト盤と悩んだがやはりアルバムとしての纏まりを重視し購入。当時はカセットで聴いた、いわゆるA面となる前半曲の疾走感は素晴らしい。

オープニングから蹴られる。
蹴られて蹴られて蹴飛ばされた８０年代末新しいミュージックシーンおろしたての匂いに満ちた時代（音）の幕開けを当時このアルバムで実感した。

それからつかの間たった１０年音楽史にその名を永遠に刻んだインエクセスフロントマン＝マイケル・ハッチェンスがこの世から去った。
残されたものがあまりにも深く心残りで悔やまれる。
楽曲のように華々しくセンセーショナル時代にストレートで強烈な色彩を放ったＩＮＸＳ、
このまま変わらずいつまでもずっとそのままで。

このアルバムが発売されてからずっと聴き続けているが、私の中でいまだにこれを超えるアルバムはない。冒頭の1曲目からカッコいいし、特に５曲目までの流れが最高である。中でも３曲目のDevil Insideは一番好きな曲である。初めて聴いたときにはあまりのカッコよさにショックを受けた。その衝撃は今でも変わらない。アルバムの後半で多少の中だるみがあるものの、最後は派手に締めくくっている。INXSがピークに上り詰めたアルバムであり、この頃の彼らには勢いがあった。しかし、このアルバムを境に次第に勢いが失速していくことになる。そして、マイケルハッチェンスが自殺する悲劇があり、バンドは終焉へと向かっていく。このアルバムがもたらした成功があの悲劇を生んだのかもしれない。数年前に発売２５周年を記念したデラックス版が発売されたが、モアキックに収録されていたリミックス曲が入っていないなど完全版とはなっていない。できれば制作されたリミックスをすべて含んだ完全版の発売を期待したい。その際は、メンバーや製作スタッフが語る制作秘話をDVDとして付けてほしい。このアルバムのことは何でも知りたいし、全て知りたい。そんな気持ちにさせる、とにかくお気に入りの一枚である。
なお、このアルバムは何千回と聴いたし、PVも繰り返し見た。４曲目のNeedYouTonightと５曲目のMediateは別々の曲だが、よくセットで流れていた。曲調は違うが、流れで聴いても違和感はない。５曲目のPVはたしかメンバーがアポなしで撮影したと語っていたが、紙に書いた歌詞をめくっていくのは、ボブディランへのオマージュである。

The packaging is really beautiful and high quality on this, and it takes up minimal shelf space for a box set, which is a must these days. The CDs sound great to my ears and on my system, but the real reason I bought this was for the Blu-Ray. In comparison to other multi-channel surround mixes of albums, an album like Kick with its more stripped-down rock instrumentation doesn't offer a ton of elements to place discretely throughout a surround mix. For this reason, it's not quite as active a surround experience as some other albums. However, if you know that going into it, I think you'll find it sounds as good as it possibly could, thanks to Giles Martin and Sam Okell. The fidelity is superb, and every part has much more room to breath and with greater clarity. Hutchence's voice sounds godlike and often rains down from the height channels. There is a great use of height and a nice wide sound stage to immerse when listening on my 5.1.4 system; with a a few nice instances of discrete activity in the surround channels. The added space can at times feel like it takes away some of the punch and immediacy of the music, making Kick sound more airy and less meaty than it does in stereo, but overall I'm very pleased with how it sounds. It's a totally different experience from listening in stereo, as it should be. A previous reviewer mentioned the static menu image during playback being a cause for screen burn-in concern on plasma or OLED TVs, which is true and not uncommon for these types of releases. I mitigated this issue by powering off my TV after selecting the Atmos mix in the menu and starting playback, leaving my AVR and speakers to play the audio with nothing on the screen.

I also have to say, the remastered music videos on the blu-ray disc look FANTASTIC! Watching them with the Atmos sound for the first time was a surreal experience. You're watching something from the MTV past that should look low res and sound flat, but here these films are elevated to such a high level. It's like watching them for the first time. Yes, it would have been good to have a "play all" option so we can watch Need You Tonight and Mediate back to back as intended, but one really can't complain given the quality. The newly shot video for Kick is pretty cool as well.

I wish more classic bands could put out releases at this quality. I don't know of any others who have gone to the trouble and expense of remastering their music videos. Thankfully INXS are doing this, and I hope we see more from them. If 2020's stunning 4K Blu-ray release of Live Baby Live was anything to go by, I would hope they're in the process of putting out more high-quality reissues over the next few years. With Giles Martin now at the helm for them, and proving what amazing things he can do with their music with these two releases, I'd snatch up anything else they put out.
