I am very happy with this storage shed. The delivery was on time, it was delivered quickly and the shippers were friendly and professional. The following day, 3/10/17 I had it installed in the only small space it would fit as the space is quite long, but limited in width, which is one of the reasons I chose Keter Factor. The installer, who had never installed this type of shed before, was excellent. I have a very even brick backyard area in my condo, and it was suggested by Keter that I place it on treated plywood, however, the installer had another idea, he actually built a base with treated 2" X 4"s and placed the plywood on top, just to be certain there would be no water problems if it rained, and for strength and stability. It is very strong. I was concerned about the installer coming alone because I was told it takes two people. He completed it in 3 hours, including setting up stand alone shelving units that I already owned, and placing them in the storage unit. My plan at this time is to fill it with filing boxes on the shelves, and I will have other uses for it when I complete my current project.
The installer was amazed at how the skylight looks like an electric light and how much light came through with both the skylight and window. I am also amazed and so pleased. I called Keter several times for information before making the purchase and they were very pleasant and helpful. Even advising me when I sent photos of the area, and letting me know the differences pros and cons of the two sheds that would fit in my area.
I have not yet placed any items in the shed, but I checked it very well because I was concerned that the installer may have taken shortcuts since he was alone and completed it so quickly (this is because of some reviews of the shed I read previously).
The roof seems very strong and I could not budge it at all. I do live in Southern California, and the area the shed is in is between my building and a very large building next door, therefore, there may be no concern about wind.
I had been looking for a shed for many months, that would fit in my uniquely shaped space and previously ordered a lean to, but chickened out when I read how difficult it was to install and how flimsy it was. I'm very happy that I made the right choice
The customer service, however, is a different story. When I received this, I was missing one part. ONE PART. That one part prevented me from completing the whole unit. Naturally, I reached out to Keter to replace the part and all they told me was that the part was on back order and warehouse is still doing inventory. I called one last time in January only to receive the same thing only they delayed the back order date (probably got tired of me asking). I asked Amazon to intervene and help me out and all of the sudden, the part was conveniently not on back order anymore and shipped that same day. In the meantime, California was hit with heavy rains early this year (yay for rain). That damaged the larger parts that I could not bring indoors because of the part delay.
I brought this back up with Keter and they tried to push the blame off of themselves. I explained in detail what happened and stated that I would ask Amazon to resolve this if we could not come to a conclusion. Fast forward a day and Keter agreed to ship my replacement parts that were damaged from the weather. As luck would have it again, they shipped the incorrect parts and quantity despite me getting my order correct. Again with the back order excuse and the item finally shipped a week and a half later. Finally, I would get those floor panels so I could finish assembling the shed. Do you know what they sent me? ANOTHER PAIR OF DOORS. I now had 4 doors and the funny thing about that is they weren't for the 8x11 either. I can understand them shipping that if I misclicked and ordered the wrong parts but, no my order was correct. Fast forward another week and a half and the correct number of parts FINALLY CAME.
I ordered this after Christmas and before the New Year ('16) and I finally got to fully assemble shed on April 4, 2017. Over 3 months and a bunch of wasted hours? This is by far one of the worst customer service I have ever had.
Overall, the material is very cheap and flimsy. One of the wall panels fell on the ground during the setup, folded in half and nearly broke off completely. Most parts have so much plastic overflow that you have to clean them up with a knife before they can fit together. Various "pre-drilled" holes for screws and snap on parts are covered with thin layer of plastic and need to be re-drilled. Larger parts came bent out of shape from the box and require a lot of effort to attach to each other. Great idea and size, very poor execution Keter!
On the other hand, it is flimsy. Even fully assembled it shifts and bends. In the heat of the truck, and the sun, the pieces warped which made assembly a little more difficult than it needed to be. We had to do the roof off the shed and move it as a piece because of the warping. In a do over, I'd do the entire top part of the shed separately and move it in place as a unit! Have a similar shed from Costco, 1/3 larger and 1/3 more expensive, but light years better in quality and was expecting something akin to that, so immediately, was disappointed. Roof panels are flat black, so direct sun is going to really make the shed super hot and also helps with the warping! Painted them too. The floor feels weak, so not sure how it will hold up if there is any weight in the shed, but we'll find out. they suggest using wood boards for shelving, I've got metal racks that I was planning to use. Hoping they won't end up poking through the plastic flooring. Can't figure out the door latch. Obviously have to poke a hole in the wall of the auxiliary door to accommodate the latch mechanism; but its placement makes getting to the screw to attach the plate to the door pretty much impossible. The latches that hold the aux door shut don't work if the door warps in the heat and without the latch in place, the main door is already warping. There are small roof vents, but are not big enough to serve much purpose - of course we are in record heat most places. Replaced the window pane with a screen to keep interior temps down. Am hoping it will last at least 10 years.am planning on going over all joints and seals with some good exterior caulk to buff it up a bit as I can see through gaps already, so that shouldhelp.
Will let you all know if there are big problems down the line.
2. SHIPPING -day 1: (ZERO STARS) I don't know if amazon uses XPO logistics for everything but they were a nightmare to deal with. Their truck was seized and my shed was never delivered. No one called me to tell me it wasn't coming until i called them. Everything I planned went to hell.
3. SHIPPING -day 2: I rescheduled again for the following saturday and it was supposed to arrive from (9-12) ...again - nothing. I called and to make a long story short the XPO rep was disgusting rude and condascending. After many cold transfers and being left in a black hole, I called Amazon and they were helpful in getting me some resolution. It finally arrived too late to build it - so i had to build it the next day. (IT TOOK ME 3 FULL DAYS because of the shipping nightmare)
4. BUILDING: It started with 2 and ended with 3 people. (TOOK 6 HOURS) (1 person opened all boxes and organized everything by sections, put all screws and small parts on a table, and read instructions) (the other two people: Put the peices together and YOU MUST HAVE an electric screw gun to nail in everything) IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you DO NOT skip a step or you will regret it!!!!!! READ EACH STEP CAREFULLY. Whatever you do to one side- you must do on the other side! The WINDOW was very easy and looks nice.
SUPPLIES/ MATERIALS (DAMAGED): Most of the parts were bent up, warped, stained, missing many screws, and many parts were broken. AFTER ALL I WENT THROUGH- There was no way in hell i would ever return it and start over - Id rather die! We tried to hide these parts in the back part of the shed. But unfortunately some of the front was still damaged. Panels were damaged, but the panels have to also click in to the pegs on the floor board. Those pegs were ALL broken - we managed to get a little click but I do not know how it will handle a lot of wind or storms. WE SHALL SEE. (see pics for the broken pegs) At the end- the roof had a section in the front where there is a GAP in the roof because of the front triangular wall panel being warped -so it didn't align well with the black roof panel. We still have to fix this somehow. Its going to rain the next 3 days so it will probably be flooded. We still have to buy screws for the inside flooring because we were missing MANY. It came with two shelves which were nice. (slide the shelf down the groove vertically, then turn it horizontally and put the board on top at the end. It is meant to go on the corner.)
EXTRA: You can buy solar lights if needed. I plan to add some bushes or Pines around it to make it look nicer.
AMAZON: I did get a lot of help and great customer service from AMAZON throughout my nightmare experience. Amazon does their best to help you - without their customer service I would have had nothing good to say.
