While My personal taste would lead me to favor a more traditional view of kimono's, this is really a beautiful publication with a modern approach of kimonos. Obviously, this is meant for women between 14 and 25 years old. I think any western young woman who has an interest for kimonos and all things kawaii would love this publication. it is accessible even if you don't speak japanese and it covers the basics.
There are illustrated step by step "how to" about putting on and adjusting your kimono, How to hang, wash and fold your kimono, and also 6 different exemples with photos of how to tie your obi with an elegant knot. there are 3 exemples of modern fashionable haircuts to go along with a modern kimono, with small illustrations explaning how to achieve this result.
Of course, there are several pages of models wearing kimonos and also 32 kimonos and their matching obis displayed at the end of the magazine so as to have a general view of them. The pictures are very professional and trendy, with a full page for each model
At the end of the publication, there are several pages with reprinted kimono patterns which you may want to cut to use as envellops. But who would want to cut pages out of this magazine ?
You may not want to have all the issues of this magazine, you may find yourself wanting to have all of them, but you should at least have one. And with all the advice inside, this would be the one for a beginner who might be otherwise intimidated by a too "serious" and too formal approach of wearing kimonos.
