Judy Sucks a Lemon for Breakfast (Dig) CD, インポート
2009 release, the fifth album from the Alt-Rockers led by Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayers. Perhaps best known for their 1997 single 'Brimful of Asha' - which was propelled to the UK #1 slot by remixer Fatboy Slim - this studio album comes some seven years after 2002's Handcream for a Generation. With a renewed energy, Singh and Ayers deliver an album of boundary crossing Indie Pop, taking in everything from Psychedelic Rock through to Punjabi Folk while managing to maintain their ability to write the perfect feel-good Pop song. Ample Play.

Lordy lord, dear oh dear what have we here? What on EARTH is this rambling mess supposed to be pray tell? Rock? Pop? Indie? And what's with the FOURTEEN MINUTE Gospel outro?
Image this, image some individuals who come from the greatest living civilisation (India) on earth who, find themselves in Blighty with all its myriad of technical influences and technological advances, its artistic freedoms and its social m'lange imagine the total sum of ALL that... and then imagine someone pissing all that away and producing THIS. For, if we are to cut to the chase, to speak truth to power and tell it like it is, is EXACTLY what these talentless halfwits have done. Well done, bravo, three cheers, hip-hip, hooray! Congratulations for giving the middle finger to both your entire collective cultural heritage and also that of your adopted nation. I hope you sleep well at night with that weight on your shoulders - my suggestion, don't try and swim or you'll drown!
Please don't make us wait another seven years!
to see them play live. and every time i hear Soul School, i smile.and one of my Favorite other songs Is The Roll Off
Characteristics. Of History In The Making. Thank You amazon and Cornershop.
One might say Mr. Singh is prone to a little hyperbole, or maybe he doesn't take himself too seriously? While it's not the greatest record in rock n roll history, it's classic Cornershop, with plenty of songs that will stick in your brain.
The record begins with "Who fingered rock n roll?" Every once in a while, you see people wearing T-shirts with the words "MORE COWBELL!". Well, Cornershop took the message to heart, and threw plenty of cowbell, that symbol of 70s rock n roll kitsch into the mix from the beginning. It's a little hard to tell whether they're serious, but it sounds good, which is what counts.
From there, the record has several other catchy Stones driven songs (that is, if the Stones had used sitar in more of their songs). As with previous Cornershop records, not every track on "Judy sucks a lemon" holds up, but at least half of the songs are great. The final track on the album, "Turn on the Truth/The truth is turned on", which clocks in at more than 16 minutes, is worth the price of the CD all by itself.
No word on when, and on what label the CD will be released in the US. It's kind of a shame that they've left Luakabop, as the label and the band seemed to be a good fit, but these things happen.
