1989年のリリースでジェイムス・イングラム通算3枚目の作品。この歌手を知ったのはクインシー・ジョーンズの「デュード（愛のコリーダ）」の中の歌唱である。伸びやかな清潔感のある歌声はいったい誰が歌っているのだろうと思った記憶がある。本領はやはりバラードにある。

James Ingram avait une voix fabuleuse mais il ne nous a laissé qu’une poignée d’albums, son 1er chef d’œuvre restant It’s your night en 1983, avec le tube énorme Ya Mo Be There (avec Michael McDonald) et le grand Quincy Jones à la production : il n’y a qu’à s’incliner. Cet album est son 3ème, sorti en 1989 et là, franchement, on se dit qu’il a tous les défauts musicaux de cette période : des boîtes à rythmes et des synthés omniprésents, épuisants. L’album est organisé en 2 parties, une 1ère partie plus funk-soul et une 2ème plus calme, comme dans les années 60 où de nombreux 33 Tours étaient réalisés de cette façon. Mais rien ne décolle réellement ni ne vous scotche, malgré cette voix extraordinaire. Et Q n’est plus dans ce coup, il a fallu faire appel à plusieurs producteurs suivant les titres (rarement bon signe). Alors, si on veut sauver un titre, ce sera Someday we’ll all be free, superbe morceau signé Donny Hathaway, même derrière les synthés étouffants, c’est Toots Thielemans lui-même qui vient nous sortir un beau solo, un des rares moments où j’ai été séduit par ce It’s real. La voix de Ingram n’y peut rien, cet album a trop mal vieilli et 30 ans après, on rêverait presque d’entendre sa voix accompagnée d’une vraie section cuivres. Ecoutez (ou réécoutez) son 1er album, il est succulent

I had the cassette of It's Real for years and loved it. Now I have a CD version to replace my old cassette. All the songs are great(I Don't Have the Heart and Someday We'll All Be Free are my favorites) all made complete by James Ingram's powerful voice and delivery.
I miss Mr. Ingram's talent-he left us too soon but his legacy and songs will live on forever.

This CD is such a terrific CD, which makes me frustrated that yet again, just because this CD isn't a "PoP" Cd, it hasn't gotten it's just desserts! It seems that only the artist that "cross-over" ever get the recognition and admiration from the "pubic", therefor leaving terrific R&B/Soul/Gospel left in "fame limbo". When you strip away the band/music of a lot of these new singers, it just show that their vocal abilities are "lacking" compared to a lot of artist in the above mentioned genre's. Come on people....lets support these guys as they are truly worthy of much love and adoration!!!

I rocked to this CD in the 90's and cracked it. I was so disappointed. Finally I was able to replace it. I have played it so much I can't get a few out of my mind.
