Watching DMX-bald-headed and shirtless, tattooed and muscle-bound--as he simultaneously goes platinum and gets arrested on rape charges (both of which occurred within weeks of this album's release), one can easily see the Yonkers, New York, rapper as a Tupac in training. And he's certainly no stranger to dumb thuggery on his much-anticipated debut. But unlike Tupac, who tempered hard-core beatdowns with party pick-me-ups, DMX is strictly business, part of a street reaction against the Puff Daddy-fuelled, late-1990s slew of lightweight pop-rap crossovers. With a name too true for its own good, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot could occasionally use a cool breeze of levity. That said, the record is not without merit; despite the album's largely standard-issue beats and rhymes, both DMX's forceful voice and solid production have moments of greatness. At times DMX even manages to squeeze memorable hooks out of this otherwise claustrophobic release. --Roni Sarig

"It's dark and hell is hot" von DMX ist ein absolutes Meisterwerk.

Schon mit diesem ersten richtigen Album hat er einen Hit nach dem anderen gebracht. Es sind nicht nur die Songs, die zusätzlich als Single erschienen sind, sondern auch gerade die anderen Tracks.

Für jede Situation gibt es einen Song von X, der dazu passt. Die Lyrics treffen einen mitten ins Herz und sprechen aus tiefster Seele.

"Ruff Ryders' Anthem" ist die Hymne schlechthin.
Besonders gut gefällt mir auch "Look Thru My Eyes". Der Song hat unfassbar viel Tiefe.
"Get at Me Dog" ist natürlich ein absoluter Klassiker.
"Let Me Fly" hört man sich nun ganz anders an, seit DMX gestorben ist.
Bei "X-Is Coming" ist vor allem die Melodie sehr einprägsam.
Besonders gut gefallen mir auch "Damien" und "I Can Feel It".
Was mich damals vor Jahren, als ich das erste Mal das Album von DMX gehört habe, am meisten beeindruckt hat, war der "Prayer". Welcher Rapper hat schon auf jedem Album ein Gebet? Für mich war das ganz neu.

Seine Songs holen die Menschen ab und lassen einen nicht mehr los. Sie sind sehr einprägsam und bleiben im Kopf und im Herzen.

Earl "DMX" Simmons war eine Legende und wird es immer bleiben. Dieses Album überzeugt mit satten Bässen, einprägsamen Beats und tiefsinnigen Lyrics. Ich kann es auf alle Fälle weiterempfehlen.

Pistoletazo de salida a uno de los raperos más hardcores de la East Coast. El disco se basa en como DMX habla básicamente de cómo vivió desde una edad temprana y cómo sobrevivió hasta el punto de conseguir una oportunidad en la industria del Rap. El álbum vale mucho la pena y si eres amante del este género no tengas ninguna duda en comprarlo. Por lo demás, decir que el envío sin duda ha sido espectacular por parte de Amazon y el CD llegó rápido y en perfecto estado.
