Mr. Peterson clearly loves his topic. There is little written on Kagura, and this is certainly an essential work for anyone interested in Asian theater, and obligatory for students of Japanese theater. It is a popular read, and could benefit from a gesture toward the extensive Japanese scholarship on this topic.
