-- 5-star review by Literary Titan
-- D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review: 'The lively format, clear photo examples and dialogues, and step-by-step investigations into what constitutes a scam and how it is fostered by methods that appear real and genuine are especially important keys to understanding the psychology, advanced techniques, and the identification and analysis of cyberfraud.
Cybercrime investigation processes often hamstring the investigator. Even Selina (a hacker) has the ability to capture criminal's information, but unlike the criminal, she is confined by laws. These laws do not allow her to hack further into the criminal's machine--not far enough to capture his detailed identity. Sadly, even if she did obtain criminal's detailed identity, the police were not likely to catch the criminal unless she could escalate the case to Interpol. And Interpol does not normally look into Internet scams due to huge amount of effort and international cooperation required (even if Interpol could catch the criminal, the actual monetary recovery is almost always zero).
I'm a Romance Scam IT Detective should be required reading for any who use the internet. The primary audience for this read will be adults, professionals, and government organizations; but computer-savvy mature new adults should be also given this book. All computer users are vulnerable--even those who deem themselves relatively computer-savvy--and this audience may be surprised to learn about the situations and scamming approaches which are described in depth in this book. Not only is this new book fascinating to read as a romantic adventure, but it is also a very astute guide to understand hacking. For those of us who are non-millennials – read ‘relatively uninformed, non-computer or internet savvy’ older generation – Sabrina’s book is a fine instruction platform for finally learning the interstices of IT (that is, Information Technology) machinations. As Sabrina so solidly states as she closes her book, ‘Going back to romance scams or other new crimes, sometimes we have to accept there are unfortunate happenings – like Internet romance scams, which are relatively new since 2005. Governments, legislation, international organizations, cybercrime law has been improving. But yet I am personally under an impression that criminals are improving their scams faster than governments and organizations’ works to combat crime. I write this book to let the public have an idea about how IT analysis, current legislation, international relations, etc, can impact the existence of romance scams and victims.’
The story that launches the book is a good one – an online encounter between Selina and one Frederick Chong, detailed in the manner in which that ‘romance’ unfolded, complete with photographs and highlighted .com sites that make the message of the scam vivid. As Selina takes us through her story we learn the facts about the schemes scammers use as well as the techniques IT detectives utilize to uncover scams. In making the reported incident personal, Selina’s advice is far more pertinent than simply a fictional novel about romance scams.
There is much to learn here – as well as being a fine source of entertainment! The information Selina shares is valuable, offering insider’s tips on how to avoid being scammed, and some impressive data about banking… Grady Harp, February 20
In a world where the internet has such a big role to play alongside social media and the many people that have either mutual friends or don’t that friend request us, we never truly know who is behind those accounts. Reading this is an eye opener and makes you more wary if you were ever inclined to give personal information out to random strangers.
The reader joins Selina Co on her adventures where she finds herself become a hacker & actress to scam the scammers who caused her to become a victim to them. The reader witnesses the many interactions between herself and others, including lawyers, police, banks as well as other hackers. This all took place in different locations across the world.
This really was very interesting , I like to think of myself as pretty fly when new people approach me online, however I do know several people who have been a victim. Must read to help stop others falling victim.
Selina Co's personal experience was used as a platform for a new business that protects innocent people. I'm a Romance Scam IT Detective is informative and helpful for readers to find answers if they had been a victim of romance scam. The process her scammer used could be used in many different ways, as well as he could change the gender of his alleged character. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who meets up with people on the internet. This will open your eyes to a world that could be your down fall.
I highly recommend this book to anyone living in this age of technology where everyone is online and uses internet, since all computer users are vulnerable. In particular, it can be especially useful to anyone thinking about dating online because it can warn you from internet romance scams.
