I'm in Love With the Villainess Light Novel 1 (英語) ペーパーバック – イラスト付き, 2020/11/10
"Inori has created one of the most delightful, heartfelt, complex, profound, and genuinely queer light novel series ever. If you only read one thing I recommend this year, let it be I'm in Love with the Villainess." --The Holy Mother of Yuri"Everyone at Seven Seas really pulled out the stops here for what is definitely, positively going to be one of my Top Ten Yuri of the Year. No question, this is the series to beat right now." --Erica Friedman, Okazu "...the book makes me absolutely ravenous to read the next two, despite the fact that the covers for the Japanese books are HUGE spoilers. I absolutely recommend it, even to those sick of otome game villainess stories." --Sean Gaffney, A Case Suitable for Treatment

The book doesn’t avoid cliché, so if you’re allergic to that this might not be for you. It’s also not *perfectly* paced, there are certainly parts that a particularly malicious reader may call filler (although I personally enjoyed those parts as well).
The translation is pretty typical quality for light novels. It’s competent enough and certainly does it job, but it’s a bit stiff and overly literal at times (to the point where in some instances I felt compelled to work backwards and guess what the original phrasing in Japanese was to work out the meaning of some interactions). It’s good enough to not hamper enjoyment of the book, but it is not really worthy of praise either.
Overall if you’re in the market for a LN with overt and outspoken LGBTQ characters for once (rather than the usual innuendo or fetish fuel) you’ll certainly not be disappointed with this.
Eu gostei, mesmo tendo o clichê da personagem tsundere que pisa no mocinho só pra não admitir que gosta dele. No caso, o mocinho é mocinha, que às vezes chega a ser irritante pelo tanto de humilhação que ela pede para sofrer.
Well the plot is good, its the characters especially our main protagonist Rae Taylor who stand out. She is wonderful as a female protagonist and even more so as an isekai one as she is actual a competent self-aware person and not the dumb sexually incompetent idiots who tend to clutter this genre. Rae is smart and funny and her playful teasing of her lady love the villainess are some of the best parts. The "villainess" is also more then just a one dimensional character or foil for the protag she feels like an actual person as do many of the other characters. Over all its plot is nothing new but the way its delivered is top level and anybody into romance or just looking for a fun and interesting read would enjoy this.
