超話題作映画のコンピレーションらしからぬ、落ち着いた味わい

先月3/23に全米公開され、たった２週間で米国だけですでに２.７億ドルを稼ぎ出し未だ勢いの衰えない、超話題のハリウッド大作映画のコンピレーションアルバム。それにしては、地味と言っても良いくらいで、落ち着いた味わいの楽曲が好みの方には好盤と感じるでしょう。カントリー・フォーク系ミュージシャンが中心ですが、ロック・ヒップホップ界からの参加も違和感がない。このあたりは、やはり、プロデューサー／Ｔ.ボーン・バーネットのなせる技でしょう。Billboard総合アルバム・チャート初登場１位獲得です。日本での映画公開は今秋とのこと、本来なら映画を観てレヴューを書くべきところですが、アルバムとしてみても良く出来ているので、そのあたりご容赦を。

The Civil Warsファンの自分には、一度聴いたら忘れられない美しいメロラインを持つテイラー・スィフトとの共演（かつ共作）４、３分４２秒の中に静寂から始まる見事なドラマを凝縮した９は絶品。その他のおすすめは、どこかプログレッシヴな味わいのトラッド２、力強いフロアータムのビートとダークで無機質的な歌メロがマッチする５、繊細な歌声が印象的なPunch Brothersの６、ジャンルこそ違えども初期Ｕ２のスピリットと疾走感を感じるThe Decemberistsの７、テイラー・スィフトの素直で誠実な歌声が良いロック・チューン１４、クラリネットの使い方のうまさが抒情性を生む１５、あたり。

歌詞カードはついていません。一緒に歌いたくなる、メロラインを大事にした作りの作品が多いだけに、惜しい。クレジットなどが書かれた折り畳み式のインナーは、裏返すとミニ・ポスターになります（但しジャケと同じデザイン、これも惜しい）。

Il CD è arrivato nei brevissimi tempi previsti e in ottime condizioni.
Ho scoperto di questo CD casualmente: non è la colonna sonora del film ma canzoni di vari artisti ispirate al film, oltre a un paio "ufficiali". Musiche insolite, progetto molto interessante.

Great music inspired by the Hunger Games movie/series

I read the reviews before I purchased this CD. It seemed like a lot of the poor reviews were written because people didn't like the type of music, or they suddenly realized that none of these songs were actually *in the movie*.

First off, If they paid any attention at all to the movie, they would have already known that there were not any songs with words in the movie at all (except maybe when Katniss sang that Meadow Song). I don't know the director personally, but I would venture to guess he probably didn't want any songs in the movie because it would have been distracting and would have made the situations seem less *real* or in the moment. This movie was about Katniss and it was supposed to be us inside her thoughts as she went through all of the situations that she encountered after the Reaping.

There is another CD that has the original movie score The Hunger Games: Original Motion Picture Score if they are looking for the actual background music used in the movie.

This particular CD, however is a collection of songs inspired by the movie/book. Overall, I think they got it right. All the songs on this CD have this sort of haunting quality about them that is reflected in the storyline. Most of the songs are a type of folk music which makes sense, because I'm pretty sure the folks in District 12 aren't rocking out to Nicki Minaj or Justin Beiber while they are mining coal. The folk/country blend in the music reflects on the simple life that the district citizens lead. There are a couple of songs with more rock influences sprinkled throughout the CD which create that sort of rebellion feeling you get a few times in the movie and especially toward the end of the movie.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this CD. I have never been a huge fan of folk-type music, but I really enjoyed the songs and I feel like they tie in nicely with the story that this CD is supposed to be telling.

For those that were upset at the folk influences on this CD, all I can say is you have no one to blame but yourself. That's why Amazon has samples of all the songs you can listen to before you buy them :o)

Surpassed my Expectations-Worth Every Dollar Spent!

There are comments written in this review section that this is mainly country genre. While some of the artists are country artists many are clearly are not. Arcade Fire (track 1), Kid Cudi (track 5), The Decemberists (track 7), Glen Hansard (track 10), and Maroon 5 (track 11) are hardly close to country. The Civil Wars also have two contributions to this album (tracks 4 and 9) and they are neither country nor folk nor a particular genre (heck they won two Grammy Awards and the Grammy's could not decide where to put them). This album has something for everyone. It's produced by the famous T Bone Burnett and don't let his name fool you. Yes, he knows Nashville but look him up- this amazing talent is legendary as he has performed with Dylan, produced Elton John, Los Lobos, Counting Crows, Robert Plant (of Led Zeppelin). Also included is Tayor Swift's and The Civil War's Safe & Sound, which has been previously released as a single and was a number 1 seller in both Amazon and iTunes when released last winter. Just one word of caution. Not all of these songs made it into the final film edit. According to the movies production notes at lionsgatepublicity there are only three tracks from this album in the film, including, "Safe & Sound", by Taylor Swift/The Civil Wars, "Abraham's Daughter" by Arcade Fire, and "Kingdom Come" by The Civil Wars (Joy Williams and John Paul White). I wouldn't let that keep you from purchasing this album because the character of the Hunger Games book is imbedded into each track and truly written with a unique artist perspective. The rest of the Sound track called "The Hunger Games: Original Motion Picture Score [Soundtrack]" will be released March 26, 2012, including Rue's Farewell and others by composer James Newton Howard (sort of like a Danny Elfman, who did I Am Legend, King Kong, and so many others). Well I am a real fan of most of the tracks on this album and recommend this for all listeners. Congratulations to all artists on this album and T-Bone once again you really did it up good-you passed my expectation with this and worth every dollar spent!

Although the all the soundtrack's songs don't appear in the movie, it is a very good companion audio CD. The songs included are referable to the series, like "Come Away to the Water" - "Maroon 5" is referable to the lake found in the woods that Katniss and her father went to before he died, or Miranda Lambert's "Run Daddy Run" referencing to her father trying to run before the grasp of the explosions catch him in the mine. The songs vary in artists spanning from "Kid Cudi" to "Miranda Lambert". The music is mostly country like music, but don't worry, I myself am into rock, techno, some metal, and some others and still throughout it enjoyed the album. The reason behind this is Suzanne Collins had hinted at that DISTRICT 12 was in a southern part of america, and they listen to alot of country. The album complements the movie when they do appear in the movie like "Abraham's Daughter - Arcade Fire" at the very end of the movie, creeping into the closing credits. Overall it is a very pleasant experience to listen to the CD.
The package itself is very professional looking. This is the "Limited Deluxe Edition" and it is alot like the DIGIBOOKS of the CD'S. When opening it you see the posters of Effie, Haymitch, Gale, Peeta, and Katniss. The faded corners of the images compliment the dark casing immensely. It also includes a poster, and some trading cards.
This is a very affordable product that provides great music, and extremely appealing packaging. It leaves you with a good amount of music and a great addition to anyone's collection of CD's.
