Grammy Award-nominated multi-platinum alternative pop maverick Halsey returns with her anxiously awaited second full length album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, which she executive produced alongside Benny Blanco, Greg Kurstin, Lido & Ricky Reed. Her single "Now Or Never" is the first taste of what fans can expect from her album, a track with a soulful refrain over dystopic, shuddering synths. In 2014, Halsey signed her first recording contract with Astralwerks and released her debut EP, titled Room 93. Her debut studio album, Badlands, was released in 2015. Her professional name, Halsey, is a reference to the Halsey Street station of the New York City Subway in Brooklyn as well as an anagram of her first name, Ashley.

I Honestly Expected Better From Halsey (Its actually 2.5/5 Stars but I rounded up for old times sake)

1. The Prologue - 0/5 stars - I could just do without, rarely do these sorts of things work out well
2. 100 Letters - 2/5 Stars - I like the music cords in the song. I like the empowerment in the words "But I don't let him touch me anymore ~~ I said "I'm not something to butter up ~~ And taste when you get bored" and other parts. I think I just don't quite like how it was sung.
3. Eyes Closed - 4/5 Stars - I really like the melodic vocals in this one. I wish the lyrics themselves were a bit more connected to me but personally I don't feel emotionally attached to these lyrics otherwise it would have a been 5/5 rating for this song.
4. Alone - 2/5 Stars - This was almost a 1/5. I don't really like the lyrics all that much and she does that thing where part of it is more like talking than singing and it is just annoying, but I do like the beat.
5. Now or Never - 5/5 Stars - This one I feel more a connection with even though its not for the reasons the song implies with there being trouble in the relationship but that chorus, whew! Its great and the melody in this song is something you could totally just loose yourself in.
6. Sorry - 2/5 stars - Its slow, the lyrics mean nothing to me which is SAD because I feel like a lot of people relate to not feeling like they are loved for who they are
7. Good Mourning - 2/5 stars - More of that talking in the opening.... some kid maybe... I get bored and this whole song I felt was just a filler song to boost the number of songs released on the album. The singing was a bit creepy and cool but the opening ruined this for me and I do like puns (title) but maybe if the song was a real song and fleshed out not just some fun in a studio
8. Lie [feat. Quavo] - 2/5 stars - getting tired of the "hurricane" references, but well Halsey can do what Halsey likes I guess. Its beat is supposed to feel powerful but the lyrics are weak to me. The song doesn't match the music.
9. Walls Could Talk [Explicit] - 1/5 stars - I feel like the beat is like an old Beyonce or Destiny Child or something song. The lyrics are boring to me.
10. Bad At Love - 2/5 stars - the vocals sound nice and the music is matching but the lyrics are not to my taste.
11. Strangers [feat. Lauren] - 1/5 stars - the female duo doesn't really work in this song, feel like they have conflicting sounds and not in a good way, and again these lyrics are not to my taste
12. Devil in Me - 5/5 stars - Sadly this is one of the only two 5 star songs on the CD, normally with such repetitive lyrics I would rank it lower but jeeze it really didn't have much competition on this CD and the song was conducted well. Music matches the lyrics and matches the vocals.
13. Hopeless [feat. Cashmere Cat - 2/5 Stars - slow, bit boring, i do like the melody but only if I am in the mood. The lyrics mean mostly nothing to me, like I can't quite make sense of some of the things, I hope they make sense to Halsey.

Now I think a lot of people might not like the way I rated the songs, a lot of how I rated them are personal tastes... but isn't that always how things are rated? I kept some stars purely because I thought some redeeming qualities were in the songs however This album I was not impressed with. I would only recommend the song Now or Never. I was re-listening to the whole album and actually marked things lower than my original ratings because the songs got worse with more plays.
