During the '80s, New Edition reigned as the biggest and best boy R&B group. Influenced by the Jackson 5, New Edition influenced New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men, who took their name from a New Edition song. After a "hiatus" of nearly 8 years, the Boston-based act reunited in 1987, with all of the original members, most notably the first to go solo, Bobby Brown. With big name producers (Puffy Combs, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, etc.) in tow, Home Again has some seriously great moments, especially on the cuts that Jam and Lewis cook up. But as with most reunions, Home Again was proof that you can't fully return to your past. While the voices were fine, the magic wasn't always there. --Amy Linden

New Edition find their way Home....Again...

For the first time ever, all six members of New Edition collaborate for their album, "Home Again". That's right folks, Bobby is even on this one! Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant come Home Again!
This is a good album. However, it has a strong beginning and a strong ending, but it's pretty weak middle. The first three songs and the last four songs are what makes the album good. This album is very r&b, New Edition go for what they know on this album. You female listeners have your set of love songs on this album, where Johnny, Ricky, Ralph and Bobby croon. Then there is always the couple of members who like to rap (Ronnie and Mike). "Hit Me Off" is the album's first single. Many r&b fans were happy to see New Edition back together, which probably helped this single, and this album, become a success. The first single is a nice way to come back. The song is a little too commercial In my opinion, but it's a definite highlight on this album. All of the members have a part in this song. "I'm Still in Love With You" is a beautiful song. It about a man who's in a relationship with a woman, but her friends are telling her she shouldn't be with him. Lots of women fell in love with this song, which was produced by super producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who also produced a lot of this album. "Thank You" is a little something Johnny wrote. He plays the piano (which is the only instrument in this song) ad he thanks God for bringing he and his group back together. Johnny gets very emotional and he does a very nice job with the vocals. Jermaine Dupri also did some production on this album. "Shop Around", "Hear Me Out" and "Try Again" are borderline fillers. They are OK songs, but not really fancied by me.
I think the r&b lover will get a kick out of this album. But, I don't think many people will enjoy the entire album, just selected tracks. It's a 3 star, but I'd recommend it. I love New Edition!

I love this album. I’m 23 now. I discovered New Edition when I was 13 and I never looked back since. Listening the album makes me wish I grew up in that era. If your fans of Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill and BBD (Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell and Ronnie Devoe). Then this is the album for you.

Home Again with this classic

I remember this album when I was in the 4th grade. I enjoyed this album during my youthful years. This album is more than a collection of grooves. The guys sported those smooth trademark harmonies. This record was all about songs and group participation. The great thing was that each member made the music what it was. They came together and made a record that has the N.E. vibe. This album is NE as you have never heard them. They had worked with the hottest producers in R&B music(1996). The ballads are more mature. his album has been certified 2x Platinum. Remember, this was 1996-1997.
