内容紹介

Claire is dead.

She’s been the love of Kevin Foster’s life for as long as he can remember; his soulmate, and his best friend.

Before she dies, Claire, an archaeologist, goes on an expedition to the Middle East and comes across evidence supporting the existence of a biblical, antediluvian site the ancients called Heaven’s Oasis, and that certain ancient artifacts can lead her to it. Claire believes that finding this site will help prove the Bible's veracity, and provide indisputable evidence of God's existence.

Following her unexpected death Claire's expeditions become public knowledge, and the subsequent assaults against her reputation from the scientific community and the media are both brutal and relentless.

Furious at the public ridicule and to prove she was right, Kevin decides to pick up where Claire left off in her search and to finish what she started. He’s willing to sacrifice everything, even his life, to restore her reputation and to honor her memory.

A billionaire arms dealer named Kain Masterson has also been searching for the Oasis, however, intending to keep what he finds for himself. The deadly competition soon becomes a struggle just to stay alive in the race to find the artifacts, follow the clues, and ultimately to find Heaven’s Oasis.

5つ星のうち 4.0 Mystery Thriller, Suspenseful, with a Romance Basis That Is Purely Entaining. Horton His Best! 2016/12/2

When I saw this novel advertised pre-release, I knew I had to review this novel. The last Horton novel I read was many years ago and I have been drawn to his novels since. Even though I have not read the many novels in between the one I read and this new novel, I can say that he has definitely fine tuned his talent and writing. This is one very entertaining novel. Horton blends biblical archaeology, romance, mystery and suspense into one engaging read.

One thing that is highlighted in this novel is that Horton is one very romantic man. This novel is resplendent with romance and all its nuances and characteristics. I have said in many past reviews that I don't like the romance genre where romance is the main plot theme and prefer the romance to be a subplot. Despite romance being the main theme in this novel, I did not mind it all. That is really saying something from me! Throughout this romantic plot, I was impressed with how Kevin's integrity as a Christian and as a man enhanced his love for Claire and vice versa and also later in the novel towards Zari. I have seen this in other Christian novels where the romance has been developed by a male author. I seem to prefer romance written by this gender. I have many male authors who are successful at this and I can now add Horton to this group. While reading this novel, I wondered where Horton got this ability to write romance so successfully. Then I recalled him saying that it was his wife who helped develop this ability by

"forcing me to watch so many Nicholas Sparks movies that I've gotten to where I actually enjoy them!"

It would appear then that Horton's wife should have no complaints about not being romanced by her husband! I have no doubt that some of the aspects of romance that he has included in this novel is based on his own experience. I say this as authors are encouraged to write about what they know, when and where they can.

As far as suspense goes, Horton has created this in one very unique manner, interspersed with the developing relationship between Kevin and Claire and through flash backs as Horton provides the background to their lives and romance. As their romance and relationship develop, so does the suspense and mystery surrounding Claire's quest for Heaven's Oasis and the ever increasing hunt for her and her research from billionaire arms dealer, Kain Masterson. This is more than a hook to reel the reader in, more like a snare, and a good one! It is actually through all this and Claire's death that ignites more of Kevin's integrity and love for his deceased wife that he devotes all his time and resources to carry on Claire's quest to find Heaven's Oasis. His aim now is to restore her honour as an archaeologist that was destroyed by her murderer and the professional slander from her colleagues. I loved this aspect of the novel. It is great to see male characters showing such integrity of character and protecting the honour of another human being, no matter their gender. In this case, it is also part of the married agape relationship and more importantly part of being of sound Christian character when one allows God to change them into His likeness as the Bible encourages.

I detect from Kevin's character that Horton may have based some of this on himself. It is very true that authors base some characters on themselves, intentionally or not, or one character solely. My guess is the latter. Again, it is the author writing about what they know, or in this case, who they know. In this novel, this is one very strong asset.

There was one scene that really touched me and is I feel has a very important spiritual message for any Christian and it involved Kevin's dealing with his grief and relationship with God. Having gone through something similar like Kevin did, I can fully relate to Kevin's reaction to grief and how this affected his relationship with God and what he needed to do to be restored to God. Very well executed and it did minister to me after all these years. Just goes to show that Christian fiction can minister to the reader's heart and situation where they are at. On my blog, I state that I expect Christian fiction to,

entertained me immensely,

encourage my walk with God.

Well, I can say that this novel did entertain me immensely and overall did encourage my walk with God, especially this scene I mentioned above. I applaud Christian authors when they do this and I applaud Horton for including this.

I loved the events that led up to the climatic ending of this novel, both in a physical and spiritual/supernatural sense. Very suspenseful and satisfying. Horton has developed this well and a fitting ending to every thing that he has included up to that point and does justice to Kevin's quest to honour Claire's legacy and quest.

This novel has definitely entertained and reinforced in me to always remember that with God all things are possible and our integrity and character as men should not be comprised by our circumstances but to stand up for the honour of fellow man including our loved ones as an expression of God's love for us. I pray that the romance that is shown from Kevin can inspire male readers of this novel that this is a natural expression of our character and one form of expression of our love for our girlfriend and/or spouse.

Strongly Recommended. 4/5 Stars.

Heaven’s Oasis by Jeff W. Horton highlights the elements of biblical archaeology, romance, mystery and suspense, thrilling readers with this Christian fiction novel. With the main element as romance, the author combines Kevin Foster’s love for his deceased wife with thoughts and flash backs of Claire, his soul mate.

Intertwining, a great adventure, Kevin Foster a history professor (as the main character), finds himself completely out of his “comfort zone”. Dedicated to a mission to redeem his wife from all the public harassment and slander to her personally and professionally, to a reputation of great honor and integrity, as she deserved. His wife, prior to her death, as a famed Archaeologist, that had been on a lifelong quest to the discovery of a secret gate leading to another place, another world, where the Garden of Eden or Heaven is kept. This place was so incredible that one could never find words to describe the colors, the sights and the vibrant life of this other realm known as “Heaven’s Oasis”. It was this discovery that others were desperately trying to steal, and even kill Kevin for. The dangerous race to the finish line to redeem his wife’s work is almost complete.

Full of edge-of-your-seat drama, the author begins by drawing readers into Kevin’s world with an action-packed scene driving through Iraq’s arid desert. Adding to the validity of the novel, many believable discoveries of recent archeological artifacts confirm the reliability of the Bible as an accurate historical document. As well as mentioning the existence of certain key characters in the Bible, such as Pontus Pilate, merely bolstering the truth of the Bible.

Each chapter flows into the next and there are many mysterious happenings as Kevin remembers his beginning in this mission as he was pursued by mercenaries on a vendetta to stop him. Why are they so interested in stopping this grand discovery of a lifetime? His travels lead him to the Middle East, namely Iraq, as he continues his wife’s life work. Filled with nuances, Kevin comes to terms with his grief over his wife and reconciles that all things are possible with God.

Encouraging all believers to trust in God on a deeper level, even throughout grief and difficulties, makes this read an inspiring, intensely written Christian fiction novel. Kevin Foster is the great main character, full of integrity, intelligence and a deep love for his wife that is a tribute to the romantic side of men, reminding married couples of the agape love that should be evident between a couple.

Heaven’s Oasis: Jeff Horton

Imagine passing through some very special gate or portal to another world filled with majesty, beauty and the many fruits that God created in so many different trees. Imagine being able to eat from on of the trees that bared these fruits and told that when you do it will change you world, bring hope into so many lives and help cure those that are ill if they believe in the miracles of God. What would you do if you passed into this place, prayed to God and found yourself in what so many call The Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve were banished from bring the downfall of man? Dr. Kevin Foster met Claire Evans and within seconds of meeting they knew they were destined for each other. She a well renowned archeologist and he a history professor just getting his doctorate as their lives would intertwine and yet never really coming together. As Claire spends much of her time on digs hoping to find the hidden secrets and portal to this Garden someone out there wanted to make sure she would fail. Someone was and still is after what she was looking for and threatened her if she dared to find the entrance to the Garden before him. With his thugs in tow Kain Masterson was going to do everything in his power to stop Claire and he did.

With the many flashbacks the author creates a special and unique sequence of events in their relationship as we get to understand the sacrifices made, the torment in being apart and the many times Kevin risks his life and could wind up in serious trouble. The final scene where they get married is breathtaking but the end results just a few days after heartbreaking. Kevin contacted someone by the name of Jaffari who handed him two stone tablets to scrutinize. Each one covered with symbols which were some form of ancient writing. Sumerian was the langue and the two tablets plus several others were discovered these two tablets and several others when this company uncovered a small settlement, which the Iraqi archaeologists have not been able to date. Within this settlements structures were several tablets like the ones he was looking at. But, when asked if Claire ever found Heaven’s Oasis Kevin Foster just stated that he was hoping to finish what she started. The ancient tablets had symbols on them that represent what earth, no sky and no that’s it heaven. `

Claire was looking for Heaven’s Oasis however there was no mention in the Torah or the New Testament and this information confused and puzzled both Kevin and Claire. Claire’s research Kevin states must have come across something that that mentioned or focused on this Oasis as having huge historical significance but that was all she learned. But, a startling illumination happened why speaking to Mr. Jaffari as Kevin thought for a while that Heaven’s Oasis might be a synonym for The Garden of Eden.

Author Jeff Horton takes us back in time to where and when Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden and when the facts are finally revealed and the ending of Claire’s research comes to light what you will witness, see and experience will change every reader’s life forever. Claire and Kevin had a special relationship that would follow him throughout his life. The romance scenes were tasteful, well though out and written and done with a special romantic and unique touch. The storyline focuses on both Kevin and Claire’ s pursuit of finding the portal to the Garden of Eden. Just what she learned and whether his pursuits would prove fruitful are the basis for the remainder of this novel Added in Kain Masterson is a dangerous man and his true confession to Kevin as the one person that hunted her down, had unlimited funds and was an arms dealer alerts the reader that he will do anything to stop Kevin not short of taking him out of the equation. Every step of the way Claire is sited and although he finally changes course he hopes to undo the negative remarks and stories about Claire and to restore her integrity as an outstanding archaeologist. Her murderer is at large and the misguided statements about her from those she worked with uncalled for. Kevin Foster has to learn to understand God’s messages and ways and be able to come full circle with his feelings and deal with Claire’s untimely death. Will Kevin’s faith in love and God be restored as he meets Zari. Zari decides to work with him to help him find his way and hopefully complete what Claire started. Zari’s father is high up in the Iranian government and with his connections he might be able to ease Kevin’s way to finding out and having access to the information he needed along with Dr. Jaffari to help solve what Claire started and hopefully lead him to seeing and entering Heaven’s Oasis himself. Danger is at every door and at times Kevin winds up in the hospital or in situations that he cannot recall. Difficulties arise and when the final scenes are created you won’t believe the ending.
While Kevin explained to Zari how he and Claire met and how they dated on and off for several years you have to admire her that she understood and listened. Meeting Dr. Abedin who had certain information and papers that Kevin needed to view and read and Zari with her connections got Kevin the permit for him to travel to Iran for an archeological expedition also learning that without authorization he could not dig plus notifying the authorities if he finds anything but will not be allowed to take anything out of the country. But, one main question haunted him and that is why she, Zari offered to help him? The answer is quite remarkable as she too thinks Claire was onto something and then telling her that he learned his wife was murdered. With her dual citizenship in both Iran and Iraq it would behoove him to take her with him and find out what he needed. But, will he? Also relating that on his last trip that someone else was looking for the ancient site and that someone else killed Claire? Who and Why? Chapter 20 changes it all as the author once again flashes back but this time to Kevin discovering his wife dead. At the funeral he barely kept it together and then someone warned him to be careful and that his life like Claire’s was in danger. What would happen if someone found the Fountain of Youth? The author continues by stating that three major religions, where blood was spilled for “millennia in the name of the three religions.” Masterson related that he knew about The Garden of Eden what about the Tree of Life that allows someone to life forever? What will happen if someone gets to eat some of the fruit from the tree? An ending so riveting, so captivating and astonishing you the reader will have to life and experience it yourself. For anyone to enter the Gateway to Paradise :”Only the Innocent no ..the Redeemed may enter and live, the Wicked will surely be destroyed.” When the final scenes are played and Kevin disappears and someone greets him what he embarks on and what he experiences will forever change everything. The final chapter are so beautifully and graphically described as the author allows readers to learn whether Kevin finds what Claire was looking for and if he does will he be able to share what he finds or even be able to document it. The surprise ending is quite illuminating and the final outcome just might not be what you expect as Zari finds herself on death’s door, the doctors count her out but will there be a miracle and what will their final fate be? Will Kevin finally marry and find a new life? Will he find and complete Claire’s work? What happens when one man pursues another’s dream he just might find his own : Heaven’s Oasis. Characters that are true to life, well crafted and a story that will bring you back in time to where it all began. The final page and the final paragraph that I will leave to you the reader says it all.
