Back in 1991, when the Cordes brothers released their beautiful debut, the notoriously prickly hip-hop community had a collective fit. How dare that fat kid, who spoke in parables, call himself a rapper? Sampling Spandau Ballet? Talking all that hippie crap? The hardcore fans filed PM Dawn in the alternative section, but the open-minded embraced the dreamy soundscape without questioning its origins. If De La Soul worked with Brain Wilson, you'd be halfway to figuring out the flowing melodies and stream-of-consciousness raps (OK, Prince Be never was much of a microphone fiend) that PM Dawn unleashed. Years later this CD stands up, if only because the rest of the world has caught up to the confusion that Be felt in his troubled soul and translated into music so well. I remember when my dad first bought this album, I think I was 7 or 8 years old. But I remember when I was a child, we would always listen to it in the car. If you were to currently browse my CD collection, you'd find that the majority of its contents contain either punk rock or heavy metal. As there are exceptions to every rule, the originality of P.M. Dawn's soul rap caused it to reserve a solid spot on my shelf. I have never been a fan of rap, and as a genre it couldn't be further from what I typically listen to. But the combination of its music, lyrics, and feeling, paired with its own brand of tranquility make this album a must have in my opinion.

U really have to be in the "PM Dawn vibe" to listen to this cd. Alot of the tracks sound dated, like that 90's rap groove that takes u back to that era. It reminds me how rap music has evolved over the years. I like the beats and the music of PM Dawn but some of the rap is hippie drippie stuff and alittle bizarre. I'm sure the rap community probably dismisses PM Dawn as "rap sissies" considering most rap is hard, macho driven and ego trippin'. I give PM Dawn credit for taking the high road and remaining positive. They're music is introspective and spiritual. My favourite tracks are "Paper Doll" and "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss". Ironically the 2 hit singles off the album. I wish I liked more of the other tracks, that's why I give the cd 3 stars. It's still nice to hear PM Dawn on occasion takin' us back to the roaring 90's when life was good. Peace.

Classic hip hop album. God bless Prince B. P.M. Dawn does great work on this album. A perfect combination of rap and singing, and the production work is spot on. A great debut album.

I had to buy this beacause I wanted the original sound of the above mentioned 1991 hit, which is very special to me (although I also think that they actually *improved* Spandau Ballet's smash hit "True", source of the main sample the song is based on...).

PM Dawn really have their unique sound - notably because of their elaborate vocal arrangements, and quite-above-average lyrics.

If you're curious about milestones in the late eighties and early nineties, this is something worth listening to.
