A guide to the camping and caravanning sites of France. Each site featured has been visited by Michelin inspectors and they give information on the services and amenities available.
Second disclosure: I don't like camping in Europe as a general rule, because the sites are often overcrowded and not particularly pretty. But...if you use this guide...it will direct you to the most comfortable sites in the country, often with plenty of amenities and gorgeous locations.
Michelin guides depend on lots of icons and symbols with short, terse narratives. This one is no exception--and resembles the standard red guides closely (even though this camping guide cover is green). The guideis divided up into the twenty major French regions. At the beginning of each section is a map showing the various campgrounds. It is important to start here--find your route and note the towns you will pass, since the rest of the chapter is alphabetical by towns, then by campsite. The site description has a VERY short narrative and lots of symbols showing its rating and what is available. Of note, the 2013 version has the GPS lat/long coordinates, so you merely have to load these into your GPS (or Google maps).
The guide is written with the British tourist in mind, so not a lot of emphasis on tent camping...rather, mostly caravan types. For that reason, this guide is probably of little interest to backpackers yet it is still an excellent reference for biking excursions (both motorcycle and pedal) since it points you to the best spots in France.
Bottom line: highly recommended guide for those who prefer a less-expensive, yet comfortable camping trip through France.
