My previous Griffin PowerJolt SE Car Charger with Coiled Cable for iPod and iPhone 1G (Black)worked fine but was a bit limited due to the integrated iPhone cable - this will not work with some iPhone accessories such as the PocketDock Line Out USB and can also be an issue due to the short length of the cable. The Griffin PowerJolt allows me to use my SendStation accessory and to use a USB extension cable if the charger is not close to the iPhone.
Like most Griffin accessories, this unit is well-designed and rock solid and has performed without a issue in four months of use. Highly recommended.
Note: Make sure you get the correct product, esp. if ordering from a Marketplace seller - one of them shipped me an older design PowerJolt which was not designed for iPhone charging. The redesign unit has a round end with an LED ring to indicate charge status; most of the older units have an oval-shaped end.
A friend liked it so much that I just bought him one too. I don't use the black cord to charge anywhere else but in the vehicle, so I can't say if it does or doesn't work well in place of the white one that comes with your device. So just use that one in the house or replace it with a quality one for a few bucks .... and leave the black one in the vehicle where it belongs so it will be there when you need it. :o)
I also want to say that it fits the phone well, clipping into it nicely. Two release buttons are easy to depress and keep the cord securely to the phone when in use. This cord is better than the one that came with the phone and is more like the old iPod cords that had the release buttons. This cord is a few inches longer than the one that comes with the phone and is more than enough for me in my car.
The adapter seats snugly into my cigarette lighter pulls out easily. Removing the USB end of the cord from it is effortless. Overall the fit and finish is nicer than any other charger I've seen to date.
I rarely use car chargers because most of them aren't very good for your devices' battery life cycles but sometimes YOU HAVE TO & they become handy for emergency purposes.
1.Well known brand name
2. Made of good quality materials
3. USB connector is detachable off car charger
1. Reduced my battery life. (used to have my iphone alive for 60-65 hours in one single full charge before this charger was accidentally unplugged in my car while speaking on the phone). Now, it's barely up to 24 hours.
2. Doesn't fit when your iPhone is inside an OTTERBOX Defender OtterBox Defender Case for iPhone 3G, 3GS (Black)[Retail Packaging]
