I have Emil Gilels's small selection of these pieces and it's very good, but Nicholas Roth plays the Lyric Pieces--all of them--like he was born for the job. His tone, touch, tempos, dynamics, emphasis and especially his remarkable rhythmic phrasing are flat out magical. Mr. Roth exhibits a gift that has frequently been attributed to Wilhelm Kempff--that of making it sound as though he were improvising the music as you listened to it.
These performances are the benchmarks against which any others should be judged.

Delicte and gorgeous piano music2014年6月15日にアメリカ合衆国でレビュー済み
I heard a couple of these pieces on the radio and remembered hearing some of the Lyric Pieces before. This complete album is beautifully played by Nicholas Roth. It'll be an important addition to my piano music collection. If all you know is the Peer Gynt suites, explore these pieces soon!
An outstanding release2010年11月30日にアメリカ合衆国でレビュー済み
So you like Emil Gilels' Lyric Pieces, and incomplete at that? Well, you must acquire and hear this. It is superb enough to obliterate the late Russian's recording. Oh and it is complete too.
