Switch easily between three HDMI sources such as DVD players, game consoles, and more. When one device is turned off, the pigtail switcher will automatically select the next device, or you can manually select with the button. Supports HDMI 1.3b, HDCP pass-through, resolutions up to 1080p or 1920x1200. Note: Source devices must be powered off for the pigtail switcher to automatically select the next source device.
I bought this to turn allow me to use a Fire Stick and Sky even though we had only one HDMI port. Prime keep pausing and the audio keeps dropping on Prime via the adapter but works fine when the Fire Stick is plugged directly into the TV. Don’t buy it.
When I came across this 3 port splitter it looked ideal and wasn't too expensive to try out either. I liked that I could have three things plugged into it as it would stop me from having to keep swapping the wires and it looked like a much easier way of doing this.
The splitter itself is just as it is described, at one end there is a hdmi cable to put in the TV and at the other three ports for a hdmi cable to fit in. At first I used it to connect a Blu-Ray player and Chromecast and whilst it worked alright, the signal did tend to drop out every now and then which was disappointing. Now I use it on a different TV to connect Freesat and a Now TV box and it doesn't really drop out at all and is much more of what I expected.
Switching between the ports is easy by pressing the button until the light is lit up next to the wire you would like to be used but it is also inconvenient having to get up to manually swap it all the time. It is quicker than manually changing the wires though so I suppose I shouldn't complain about that!
Overall it is an okay product and good for the price, I guess it's effectiveness depends on what you wish to use it for!
I did notice it had some issues auto-detecting an older DVD player and a media player box - not a major problem but worth mentioning that it's not a magic fix for everything. I also noticed a couple of momentary drop-outs when I ran my Freesat box through it, but I suspect that was related to the problem with the TV and not the switcher box. However, the way I have things set up just now is working satisfactorily for me so I'm happy with it.
**EDIT** Having tried watching a DVD last night, the momentary drop-outs were more frequent where it lost signal completely for a few seconds. This is more irritating than the problem that I bought it to resolve, so I've decided to send it back and look for an alternative.
- Apple TV: Frequent HDCP errors displayed on screen when playing on-demand TV (e.g. All4) through Apple TV.
- Chromecast: Sound kept dropping out for 1-2 seconds about every 30 seconds.
Also, the auto-switching never once worked.
Sky HD box worked fine though. So if you’re using say Sky and a DVD player for example, you might be OK but with many alternatives available I wouldn’t recommend.
