［かっこう］っていう童謡の歌は、罪を連想させて怖い。　［かっこう］という托卵鳥を連想させて「ほーら、ほーら［母さん］」

やっぱり傑作。歌はサビが大事

ファーストもいいけどこのアルバムは大傑作。歌はサビが大事だよ。なのでフーティーは大好きです。ファーストの渋い路線もいいけど俺はフーティーはやはりこのセカンドアルバムのジョンソンとサードが一番好きです。

HOOTIE流ロックを貫いた、2ndアルバム！！！

　1996年、HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISHの2ndアルバムです。
（原題「Fairweather Johnson」、邦題「ジョンソン」）

　1st「Cracked & Rear View」(1994)が、大ヒット、グラミーも受賞し、一気に大物バンドになりましたが、
この2nd、いい意味で、まったく軸がぶれていない、1stの続きのような作品です。
　流行、セールス etcを完全に無視してますし、「自分たちの音楽をやるんだ」という意志を明らかにしたような作品です。

　のどかな田舎ロック(2)(4)(6)(7)は相変わらずGood！
　田舎ロックにゴスペル風・ソウル風コーラスが絡む(3)(5)は味わい深いですし、(13)(14)はノスタルジックな雰囲気があっていいです。

　で、インパクト強いのが、オープニング(1) "Be the One"。
　強烈に哀愁を放つフォークロックです。
　黒人でありながら白人的な哀愁を歌いあげる、Darius Ruckerの歌唱力には、かなり感動しました。
　「大ヒットした1stアルバムよりも、この1曲の方が日本人にはアピールするのでは？」と思います。

　個人的には、(9)〜(12)がちょっと弱いかな？と感じるので「☆-1」しました。

　ファンなら、十二分に楽しめる作品です。
　その他、「70's US Rockファン」「フォークロック・ファン」etcに、Good！です。

デビューアルバムがいきなり大ヒット。２枚目。普通はこれでこけるもの。彼等が売れたのは飾り気のなさだと思う。大衆に好まれる飾り気のなさはここでも健在。ローカルバーバンドをそのままアップデートさせたサウンドが聴ける。シンガロングな節回しと王道路線をさらに継続。
楽曲の完成度は１枚目には及ばないが、好盤。１０点中６点

Hootie and the Blowfish got a lot of ignorance thrown at them after they failed to follow up their first album with the same success.

In truth, their follow up, this one is not that bad at all, in some ways it is actually better than the first.
Its just as a worthwhile listen as their first record, its some of the others that followed that maybe didn't quite play through so well, but I don't think they are bad albums and not bad for them either just probably not on the same level as the first two.

Or maybe it is because they kind of have one typical sound....

Who knows, but this album is very good along with their first. So if you only want to own 2 of their records I would say the first two are the ones.

That is not to say had their follow ups got the radio play they needed they would not of sold either.

this is hootie & the blowfish second studio album & none of their albums sold as good as their debut album cracked rear view, but this is a solid album, i own all of their studio albums, & this one is really good, i love 11 songs on it "be the one" "sad casper" "tuckers town" "she crawls away" "so strange" "old man & me" "honeyscrew" "let it breathe" "silly little pop song" "fool" "tootie", i like all 14 song but those are my favorite, it sold 5 million, i don't know why so little compared to cracked rear view 16 million, but cracked rear view was the better album, but still fairweather johnson is a really good album. i still listen to it.

When I first bought this album when it came out, I was a teenager who adored their first album. Honestly the first album would be hard to beat, since there were so many hits. Sadly, I didn't like this album then. Darius was great as always but the songs didn't have that pop rock catchy tune quality. So I threw it away. Now years later, I bought the album again and I find that I like it a lot more. The songs are more mature and are not aimed at a teen crowd. These songs are great, they just may take a few listens to realize that.
