What kind of lunatic forces a grizzly bear to wear mechanized combat armor and fight his battles? What kind of fiend kidnaps a beautiful Polynesian computer genius to be his child bride? And just who has a ninja for a butler anyway? Meet the Professor: eccentric, scientist, explorer and Englishman par excellence. Madcap steampunk hi-jinks in Endangered Weapon B!
The first story is all flashbacks, too, with no real outcome. That would bother me, but I think it’s on purpose, another spoof of stiff-upper-lip Allan Quatermain-type tales that relied too strongly on narrators recapping events via journal. I was slightly disappointed that the entire book was not taken up by the first story, but the second was also fun – if even sillier and less satirical. In it, our “heroes” battled the typical Euro-monsters. The third story was even slighter still and confounds memory; it may have been the first story the creators had tried with these characters, and as such was the roughest.
I’m reviewing the kindle edition, so I must say that it provided a smooth reading experience. Double-tapping enlarged the pages with no loss of resolution, and the text was very readable. The art was cartoony, but stayed crisp. Plus, it's only $3.99 on kindle. You can't go wrong for that, especially when the first story is so sharp.
