Danielle Bernock was born and raised in Michigan near the end of the baby boom and is the granddaughter of European immigrants. She has visited 40 states, 3 countries and lived in Arizona for a few life changing years. Married since 1980 she is also a business owner, mother, sister and grandmother (aka Mima).
To me, the most helpful insight was her view of the devil as "JAB!" My husband and I read a prayer aloud together every morning in which we put on the armor of God from the book of Ephesians chapter 6. When we get to "We hold up the shield of faith that extinguishes all the flaming arrows of the evil one," I physically hold my unseen shield across my chest to protect my heart. Those "flaming arrows," also translated "fiery darts," are real and they really hurt. Danielle's book helped raise my consciousness to instantly recognize them as "JAB!" that is, LIES!
One night I realized they are arrows of condemnation and I shoot most of them into my own heart! I realized I need to forgive myself not just for major sins but for all the things I blame and beat myself up over--dozens of times a day! I spent a very productive 90 minutes identifying them and saying aloud (so the enemy could hear!) "I forgive myself for not receiving compliments from others," I forgive myself for calling myself names," "I forgive myself-- (get this one!) "--for not forgiving myself for (each one of those things)!"
I realized that in accusing myself of anything, I am coming into agreement with Satan, who is the "accuser of Christians." I am doing his job for him, attacking myself. And in the process I am becoming more and more like "my father, the devil," instead of "my true Father, the One who loves, saves, protects, and provides for me." There is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!
This was so freeing! I just had a birthday and for once when I read greeting cards from my husband and daughters I actually believed the things written in them applied to me! Yes, I am sweet and thoughtful! Yes, I am caring! Yes, I do make others happy!
No more JAB! Thank you for this book, Danielle!
Memorable parts of the book for me was how she identified feeling pursued (The Pursuer) and then defeated (J.A.B.).
The journey is fascinating because one comes to a self-realization about unconditional love and self-forgiveness. I also admire how Danielle encourages pursuing the Pursuer towards the end of the book. I honestly believe anyone who reads this book will find some nugget of gold to use personally or share the information with another person in need.
Well done Danielle!
