This book is in many ways a good effort. It is detailed and explores some unusual motor configurations. The first third is about various designs of electric motor and most of the rest is about controllers, with a shortish section at the end about electric vehicles and discussion of hyperflywheels, cold fusion and the like.
The main problem for me was that it was dated. There was no mention of IGBTs for example and in the (brief) discussion of Electric Vehicle batteries, no mention of Nickel metal-hydride batteries. Lithium batteries were only mentioned as little more than a research project.
The other thing I struggled with was that the text was poor at explaining principles: a few paragraphs of description, then it would slap a circuit diagram in front of you. I would recommend Austin Hughes' book
Electric Motors and Drives: Fundamentals, Types and Applications
as a better written and far more up to date alternative
