This is an excellent book - if you can handle it. There are many books out there which will help you shave a few pounds off your grocery bills, gamble in the property markets, or grow your own organic vegetables, but Fisker brings a physicist's mindset to the modern world, and specifically, to re-forming the reader's relationship to that world, so that the world - in a sustainable and non-exploitive way - serves the purposes of the individual, rather than the individual serving the purposes of the world.

Any reader will find something to argue with in the text, but this is not only to be expected, it is a necessary aspect of setting out a path which challenges the assumptions according to which so many have run their lives for so long - and to so little benefit.

Read, enjoy, challenge yourself, and reshape your life!

A lot of Americans have raved about this book, so i bought it.
The first few chapters were the most interesting and relevant to me as they're more about how your money and spending relates to you and your happiness instead of the old unrealistic
'save 90% of your wage yet be miserable as anything and feel deprived making you loaded but then because of this fail and go and spend that 90% anyway as every person is different'.
Then the rest of the book kind of talked about math, stock markets & things that weren't really relevant to the average English person.
That's why I've given it a 3 really. Great points in the relevant chapters.

I was worried this book would be a bit of a slog. Jacob certainly warns on his blog that it is dense. However, I only found myself skipping a few very equation-heavy pages. I found the rest of it perfectly readable and highly recommend it even if you have read the blog.

I am not a reader of the blog and neither will I be after reading this book. I found the first ~200 pages to be largely unhelpful rambling, which was followed by a series of formulae the author wrote about that was too technical for me to follow.

I gave the book two stars instead of one because in amongst the rambling were some good money saving tips. Overall however I would not recommend buying this book.

A far superior book on financial independence is JL Colin's A Simple Path to Wealth.

Different to what I expected. As much about changing your philosophy on how most of us live our lives as it is a practical means by which to save money. One of the interesting points was about seeing your house as a massive liability and downsizing where possible whilst saving as much as possible as soon as possible to enable you to build a large equity portfolio and live off the income from that instead (with your more frugal life costing you significantly less than before).
