As a newcomer tp the ESP32, this download looked like a potentially excellent idea and source of information. Unfortunately, the text omits a number of details that would have made it a really useful accompaniment to the ESP32. These include:
1) How to adapt the standard desktop Arduino IDE for use with the ESP32
2) Which particular ESP32 Board to select under the Tools/Board list
3) How to complete a programme upload once the compile process has completed
4) How to start a programme running.
(3) and (4) above occur automatically with a standard Arduino board. Finally, I found that the serial monitor displayed random unreadable characters following a serial.print() command when the programme was running. The solution for my setup was to reduce the data rate to 9600 in the serial.begin(115200); statement.
The board is well made and worked perfectly once I had resolved the above issues. It may well be that the above issues are well known and understood by most, but it would have saved me a great deal of time and frustration had they been included in the documentation.
