This is an entertaining read for fans of good old fashioned monster based horror. There are plenty of well written action scenes, an immersive setting and feel, nice character detail and gore aplenty. Reminiscent of early Graham Masterton, I thought.
What holds this book back is the sloppiness of the grammar, spelling, paragraph structure and punctuation. It really needs a good going over with attention to typo editing as there are mistakes of one sort or another on just about every page, some minor some not so much (mixing up words like parameter and perimeter, or vicious and viscous for example) and this unfortunately makes it all rather unprofessional and distracts the reader (a reader like me anyway!) from what is in fact a damn good horror story. Another issue is the rather haphazard narrative style, where POV's seem to switch between two or three characters in a single paragraph, making it sometimes difficult to know who's viewpoint we're looking through.
A fine story in need of a bit of a liberal dose of spit and polish.
