(5)"I idolize you" (Pop #82 R&B #2) This was a great performance by the duo. Tina blends a nice smooth vocal style with a bluesy growl, again with the girl group feel. Ike follows the girls with a latin beat.
(6) Tra la la la la (pop #50, R&B #9) A cute sunday stroll song. Tina again shows off a rasping style that was new to the Pop charts (for women)
(7) "Sleepless" is A blues tune with a great gospel feel. though it did not make the pop or R&B charts it was synonymous with the Duo.
SOng is performed hair raising emotional force.
(8) "I'm jealous" was a pop tune that to the surprise of many was a flop (Pop #117). Tina sang smooth and urgent against a well produced girl group pop background. A great track and worthy of a greatest hits collection.
(8)"Won't you forgive me" the b-side track to the monster hit "It's gonna work out fine", Forgive was not a hit but showed Ike and Tina Singing together harmoniously.Tina holds back and blends wonderfully with her husband.Cute lyrics emotionally charged vocal performances, and a wonderfully dominant violin are the highlights of this track. This has a Mickey and Sylvia feel.
(9)"The way you love me" the backing track of the debut hit "A fool in love" has a bluesy rock feel. Has an almost Chuck berry/Little Richard feel. Tina demonstrates she can sound kittenish when she wants to. This song was redone beatufully on the duos hit Album "Workin together" (pop album charts #25)The new version is done in a southern soul fashion. The album also contained (Proud Mary [pop #4, R&B#5] Ooh Pooh Pah doo[pop #60 R&B#30] WOrkin together[R&B #50] and Funkier than a mosquita's tweeter)
Tina was like no other singer out there at the time. She was a black woman. She was not like a complete blues singer like Big Mama Thorton, or a girl group singer like Diana Ross, or Martha Reeves. She was no Jazz singer like Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn, and she was not fully gospel charged like Aretha Franklin or Gladys Knight. She was a delightfully distinct mixture of Little Richard,Gladys Knight, Big Mama Thorton, and Diana Ross (listen to letter from Tina) though she out dated many of them. SHe is Tina Turner, Queen of Rock, and this is one of her best albums.
