I've long been a fan of Doris Day, with big band accompaniment and all. Listening to "Australia All Over," an Aussie radio program online, I was introduced to Janet Seidel, an Australian singer/pianist most often backed up by a combo, in this case she was part of a trio with her playing piano, David Seidel on bass and Chuck Morgan guitar. This CD takes songs from her Cabaret Show "Doris & Me" and, like Doris Day, she sings crisply with wonderful clarity, and with sort of a dreaminess in her voice.
Alas, she is NOT impersonating Doris, but sings the songs in her own manner, with a little bit of Australian "favor" added. Her piano playing and the back-up of the two with her are excellent and some of the guitar riffs are very special.
I highly recommend this album for the exquisite presentation of the 24 selections (68m46s). She has been referred to as "Australia's first lady of jazz singing" and is not only very popular in Australia, but recently completed a lengthy tour of Europe. Call her name up online and see!
