A New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestseller
In this iconic bestseller, popular business blogger and bestselling author Seth Godin proves that winners are really just the best quitters. Godin shows that winners quit fast, quit often, and quit without guilt—until they commit to beating the right Dip.
Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out fun…then gets really hard, and not much fun at all. You might be in a Dip—a temporary setback that will get better if you keep pushing. But maybe it’s really a Cul-de-Sac—a total dead end. What really sets superstars apart is the ability to tell the two apart.
Winners seek out the Dip. They realize that the bigger the barrier, the bigger the reward for getting past it. If you can beat the Dip to be the best, you’ll earn profits, glory, and long-term security.
Whether you’re an intern or a CEO, this fun little book will help you figure out if you’re in a Dip that’s worthy of your time, effort, and talents. The old saying is wrong—winners do quit, and quitters do win.

Winners never quit right? Well sometimes they do, but only at things that will hold them back from being more successful.
Have you ever felt that something is just not worth going on with and it is time to look in a different direction? Well that is called the "dip" and if you aren't careful you could get stuck in the "cul-de-sac" of life with no significant advancement in any direction.
So what should you quit and what should you stick to? That is up to you but reading this book will help you make those crucial decisions.
Seth Godin's books are always catchy, "un-put-down-able" and this one is no different. Short and sweet you can get a lot of bang out of this quick read.

A very short book with not much to say
The Dip has 80 sparsely filled pages of content, word for word it's probably the most expensive book I have ever purchased. It wasn't worth it.
In essence it says, sometimes it's important to stick with things when the going gets tough because the rewards will be worth it, and sometimes it is better to quit. There is some quite generalised advice on how to tell the difference. Oh, and apparently we can all be the best in the world (by redefining 'the world' to mean our immediate context).
Essentially this is a blog post masquerading as a book, a short work that should be even shorter.

Poorly written, jumbled messages, sweeping generalisations

I bought this book on a recommendation and was sorely disappointed. The author makes sweeping generalisations and snap judgements about a range of markets and businesses with no justification. He uses graphs that are ill thought out (I think you meant the x-axis to be "cumulative effort", not just the level of effort). The book is made up of a lot of short, snappy sentences that do not hang together and that contradict each other (just a few pages after arguing for staying in a market but adapting your product he says you should quit the news industry because sales of newspapers are declining). Total waste of money. I won't be buying another self help book any time soon if this is the level of quality to be expected.

Short, but well worth reading...

I enjoyed this book. It was short, concise and gave me plenty of ideas regarding my own goal planning. Sometimes I found the writing a little jumbled and had to read the paragraph a couple of times to understand the point that the author was trying to make.
The books' central idea is that each goal is easy to start with, but then hits a "dip" of difficulty which we need to push through. We must therefore "give up" on goals unless outweighed by the longtime benefits of pushing through the dip; or not start the pursuit of goals to which we know in advance we will not commit when the path becomes difficult.
Recommended and worth the price.

QUICK, EASY AND MUST READ

This tiny book is full of huge nuggets of wisdom. The author is worldly-wise clearly from the authorities he cites, he has friends in high places. Media, marketing and mega-corporations to name but three of these places.
Quitters never Win and Winners never Quit; "Wrong" abruptly says Godin, winners do quit all the time. tactically rather than strategically he infers. My simplification rather than Godin's.
The wisdom in this book is from several (NOT TOO MANY) real-life examples that he gives.
AND - he writes less, less in this particular case is definitively more.

Really insightful book from Seth Godin. Quite simply we all spend too much time on things that don't work out, and this book tells you why. It will help you understand what the absolute best use of your time is when working on projects, jobs, businesses and more. If you can't get through the dip don't start. When you're investigating what your next step is in life, this is a great book that will stop you wasting years of your life on something that didn't suit you. This book will help you focus on leading a purposeful life. Be the best or not at all is the theme of this book. Everyone is capable of being the best at something. Find that something and use this book to navigate through the dip to life long success.
Many people might at first think this is a short book when receiving it. Don't be fooled, every single page is gold dust. It's as long as it needs to be. Quality over quantity is the order of the day here.... Brilliant book!
