In addition to being a first-rate course on digital matte painting, this book is a great general introduction to painting with Photoshop. For the professional, it seems that every page contains a new technique that is as applicable to ordinary illustration as it is to matte art. I was particularly impressed by the chapter on perspective---a subject all too often overlooked by both traditional and digital artists.
The book also contains a DVD with video demonstrations of many of the techniques discussed in the book. Just as with the text, these are remarkable for their clarity and exposition.
In short, Mattingly's book is more than a bargain at its price!
But then I noticed a reply to a review where someone gave the book 2 stars because of the lack of the DVD content. The reply was from the author David Mattingly who said write him and he would give links to the content with proof of purchase. I sent him a copy of my receipt and to my surprise within a couple of hours (not days) he had sent me the links. I have not been through this book with a fine tooth comb yet but a quick study and the diligence of the author lead me to high praises for the book.
