内容紹介

Apple Inc. is one of the most successful—and influential—companies of our time, the transformational innovator that made computers not just personal but beautiful everyday objects. Technology met design, and our culture was altered forever.

And yet very little is known about life inside Apple. The company is pathologically secretive—even with its own designers—about how it comes up with its groundbreaking products: iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and the next “insanely great” thing on the horizon. Here, for the first time, the men and women who worked for and alongside Steve Jobs share their remarkable thirty-year story. How Apple survived nearly catastrophic failure early on. How Jobs and his team came to understand and execute design like no one else. And how their philosophy ultimately changed the world.

This Fast Company original ebook is unlike any other book about Apple. Author Max Chafkin led a team of reporters that spent months interviewing more than fifty former Apple execs and insiders, many of whom had never spoken publicly about their work. The result is a compelling and deeply revealing oral history of how design evolved at the most creative enterprise of our time, the company that one former executive says “taught the world taste.”

Former colleagues describe Jobs at his most brilliant and bombastic—hurling unsatisfactory products across the lab and insulting employees, yet also singling out and celebrating craftsmanship and original work. Without a doubt, Jobs is the single most important figure in the company’s history. But overlooked in Apple’s carefully cultivated mythology are the other ingenious men and women who’ve left an indelible mark on Apple, some of whom think they deserve much more of the credit. At Apple, the stakes were big, and so were the egos.

ジョブズについて書かれた本はたくさんあるけど、いろいろな関わりや視点からのエピソードが非常に面白い。

5つ星のうち 5.0 A different look at Apple 2013/9/7

Most articles and books about Apple trade heavily in familiar public myths about what made it a great company - the brilliance of Steve Jobs, the dedication to simplicity, etc.
In this book, several writers from Inc. Magazine did some real research. They talked to a lot of Apple veterans, on and off the record, and came up with a nuts-and-bolts look at the company. I've followed Apple closely ever since I got an Apple II in the 1980's. There's a lot in this book that I never heard anything about.
Well written and fun to read!

5つ星のうち 5.0 Very Interesting Read.... 2013/12/19

I'm a PC guy from way back....the late 70's to be exact. I've only recently begun using Apple products....first the IPod, then an IPhone, next an IPad, and a few months back I took the plunge and did the whole Mac Book Pro thing. As an architect, I am always interested in great design, and Apple seems to lead the way. They care more about the user experience than the product cost....and I must say, I am seeing the light. Design is central to their brand, and this book did a great job (no pun intended) of pulling back the covers and exposing the inner workings, thought processes, rivalries, and hard work it took to build the Apple brand. It was fun to read, and I went through the entire book in only a couple of days.

I believe this book give us great insight into the internal dynamics at Apple, the rol of a different teams to come up with innovative ideas and hos Steve Jobs have the tendency to claims those ideas as its ow.
To read about the struggles for producing a great product, the human cost and the reasons of why many good people: designers, engineers and marketing people left through the years gives the reader a unique perspective into the "Apple Phenomenon".
Great book but don't expect a blind veneration of Steve Jobs but instead a down to earth experience from the mouth of different people working for him and the company.
Totally recommended
5つ星のうち 5.0 The story of Apple told by the people who were there 2013/10/14

This book contains information that, unless you're a true Apple fanatic, would otherwise be unknown. It breaks several myths about Apple and it's products, like who actually created or conceptualized the idea of the iPod. I particularly found the style of telling a significant event for the company through different perspectives of the people actually involved with the event to be refreshing, fantastic, and authentic.

The author focused on Apple as a whole, and not just on one man. If you're an Apple fan, a tech enthusiast, or someone who just likes to read, then get this book. You'll laugh, get nostalgic, smile, say ooohh and ahhh, and you won't regret it.

Short, great read. Anybody who is curious about Apple and it's great designs will enjoy reading it. Filled with anecdotes that will open your eyes to the genius and sometimes craziness of Apple and Steve Jobs in their pursuit of perfection in design and brand experience.
