The first two books were fabulous, after that the characters seemed to swap personalities so that was a little disappointing. I did like the book dedicated to Kid, I wasn't expecting that. I think Caleb just wimped out a bit in the third book, which is why I only gave 4*. This is not a book for the faint of heart, it is a hard read at times but totally worth it. Extra dark, just like I like it. Reviewed by K.M. Thompson, author of: Light of Day
Oh my days!!!! Where to begin with this book???? Well for starters the warning beforehand should not be taken lightly!!!! I've experienced every emotion available whilst reading the Dark duet, yes even shedding a tear (totally not me usually). Very compelling read if you can hold on and managed to read through your fingers at times, Thanks CJ Roberts, I have no finger nails left now
I bought this series in one collection and could not put it down until I'd read all the books. It is compelling reading rooting for Livvie throughout and hating/loving Caleb. It makes you think about a lot of things, there are uncomfortable moments interspersed with beautiful ones Well worth reading I will follow CJ Roberts with interest
I was recommend this series with reservations of it bring a bit dark .very good story line couldn't put it down not a series that I would normally go for but do glad I did. A different storyline but very intreging.
These books are the hottest I've read to date, C Js writing style keeps you panting for more while keeping her characters believable. If I could give more stars I definitely would. Keep writing C J Roberts I loved them
A story of the tragic world of sex trafficking, told from the point of view of the victim and one of the captors. The 18 year old victim fights to escape her captor. After her escape she is "rescued" by her captor from an even more harrowing situation. Great character building and a non-stop ride. Hard to put down as the physical and emotional cost to the victim is poignantly and movingly revealed. It is the first I have read from this author but will certainly read more. So well-written and explored that it is a compelling read. I highly recommend it.
Pfiouh... what a ride! Several days after, I still think about this book, it is that good! It is a truly dark romance. The characters are relatable, the build-up is slow and therefore believable and the dual-POV very well written. I wish there were more books, I miss reading more about Caleb/Olivia!
These stories were intense, gripping, dark, brutal, edgy, and challenging. There was also much about redemption, especially in 'Captive in the Dark' and 'Seduced in the Dark'. I loved Livvie/Sophia, I was always fighting for her. The more I learnt about Caleb/James the more I finally came around to liking him and understanding him.
I really liked the way C J Roberts wrote 'Seduced In the Dark', it was a good writing style.
I liked 'Epilogue' it had a sense of playfulness and humour to it.
I wasn't so enamoured with 'Determined to Obey', just a personal thing.
This series is not for everyone, but then not everyone has to read it - like most things it is a choice.
It is 3:30 in the morning and I should be asleep, but I got stuck in the epilogue by Caleb and James.
This was a wonderful book, flowing smoothly and seamlessly from one POV to another, and from one time to another. As a writer myself, I am in awe with how well she does this.
Her characters are flawless, complex and ever changing as only humans seem to be. James and Sophia's push against each other and then towards each other was a marvel to read. Her secondary characters were as realistic as her main characters. Her settings were central to the story and described in exquisite detail, adding to the dark and secretive ambiance of the plot line.
So I loved this story and would love to see this a tv show, but only if they don't ruin it. This is a new writer to me and I am on my way to find something else she has written.
P.S. I would like to know more about Janice and Matthew!!
I was so soaked into this series! I have found that I like the dark romances, surprisingly. I guess because they aren't the typical normal way to fall in love! The shock value is priceless for me! The emotional torment keeps me on the end of my seat & I can't wait to see how everything will unfold! This is an amazing story of how a person can change & find ways to live a different life even when they don't think they need or deserve it! I got the first book under my Kindle Unlimited & didn't think twice about buying this series! It's a definite example of not judging a book by it's cover & how people are more complex than they usually appear! If you can handle the dark to get to the light, I recommend this series!! LOVED IT!
