This is a great book that provides insight into what our brave soldiers suffer when wounded in defense our country, especially in Afghanstan. The mental and physical trauma Maggie experiences makes you feel empathy for her limb loss. As she meets Jake one night during a rain storm and he offers to help her change a tire, the back and forth romance is ignited. While reading this book RaeAnne Thayne does an excellent job of keeping a healthy banter going between Dr. Jake Dalton and Lt. Maggie Cruz. However, there were times I just wanted to put it down because Maggie was so nasty to Jake, I wonder just how he had the fortitude to continue pursuing her. Even as a physician who has a great understanding of what she was experiencing; he still was a very strong person.

There was another love interest intertwined in this book, but I won't tell you about that so as to not spoil a very unexpected turn of events.

The chemistry between Maggie and Jake existed from the beginning, but she continued to resist his advance due to her feelings of inadequacy, sometimes ashamed of her body and lack of self confidence because of her grave misfortune while serving in the Army. The fact that her finance, who happened to be a surgeon, was repulsed with her injuries did not help her rebuild her womanley feelings.

This is a lovely romance novel without rude language and embarassing profane
dialogue. It is a very warm and insightful read. A great deal could be learned, and appreciated, for our brave men and women who are and who have fought to keep our country free. A steep price for Maggie to have paid. Makes one wonder, just how many Maggie(s) are out there experiencing similar life changing situations. This is a great, easy read - you will definitely not be disappointed.

Dancing in the Moonlight is a love story with a sexy cowboy and he is a compassionate medical doctor in a small community. Dancing in the Moonlight has a war hero that returns from war not as she expected by learning to adjust to her injuries. My two favorite romance characters are sexy cowboys with a soft compassionate side for their women and war veterans, so Dancing in the Moonlight has both. The setting is Idaho with the Grand Tetons for a background to put the ranches in one of the most beautiful parts of the Rockies. The secondary romance of Maggie's mother was a sweet addition to the story along with the importance of the love of families.

Dancing in the Moonlight was enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of RaeAnne Thayne's books in the future because I loved this one.

The army nurse Lieutenant Magdalena Cruz returns after her very serious injury in Afghanistan, which cost her one foot, to her little home town, where she wants to hide away from life. Dr. Jake Dalton who has been secretly in love with her since both of them where little kids tries to show her that life can go on. Can he convince her or will their entirely different points of view and their past diminish their chances for love?

The cut and thrusts between Jake and Maggie were very realistic. The author managed in a very believable way to transmit Maggie's insecurities and feelings to the reader. Maggie's seesaw whether somebody could be attracted to her or not were very lifelike and didn't really tire me.

Jake on the other hand tried very optimistically to show Maggie that the person and not their" limitations" are the very essence of life.

Some very serious issues presented in a very light manner which set me more than once thinking about all the victims of war. Loads of beautifully described emotions.

Recommended for light and pleasurable reading.

If you are into romance, or you just need a break from heavy reading, this book is for you. After all, how many silly little books are set with a view of the Tetons, especially from the back side. (I live near there, so this is hometown reading fo me.)

The male romantic interest, Dr. Dalton, is a sole practitioner in a small town about 45 minutes from Idaho Falls, where he seems to spend a fair amount of time delivering babies and checking up on patients. He is the son of a major cattle rancher in this small town of about 2000. He has a heart of gold, which apparently was stolen at a young age by the female romantic interest, Maggie, who is a vet newly released from the hospital where she has been recovering from a leg amputation due to injuries in Afghanistan. She is driving home to escape her life after being rejected by her fiancé due to her injuries. She has a huge chip on her shoulder because of this and because of her injury in general. Besides that, she is in constant pain because she has been overdoing it on her new leg. She can’t be all bad, though, because she drives a Subaru.

In addition, Maggie has a very deep antipathy toward Dalton and all of his family, because she believes that the patriarch of the family cheated her father out of vast sums of money, and that this lead to her father’s death. The elder Dalton is also long gone.

So these two meet up on a dark, empty road on the way to their homes. Dalton is driving home to catch a few hours before returning to Idaho Falls to check on a patient. Maggie is returning home in defeat. She doesn’t know she is a hero in her hometown. Her car has broken down. Dalton, a good neighbor, stops to help, and gives Maggie that help over her objections. Somehow this type of unwanted help continues over and over, while Dalton falls deeper in love, and while Maggie begins to realize that she may have feelings: Feelings she know she can’t act on because no man would want a woman with a stump instead of a leg, and because she hates everything Dalton.

The end to this story is predictable. We don’t read these books because of the end, but rather, because of the journey. This one is pretty nice.
5つ星のうち 4.0 Good plot development 2015/1/5

I greatly appreciated that the author let you see into the leading characters minds and perspectives, giving much depth to the characters. Good plot development, charming love stories between folks in rural America. I confess that the heroine got on my nerves and annoyed me several times throughout the book (hence the 4 stars)...but the book had a good sense of realism as every one knows some real-life people that appear to blindly have a chip on a shoulder or two. "Perspective is reality" is a theme you'll get familiar with throughout this book. Granted, some of Maggie's angst and fight for her dignity and independence is admirable in its own right - any medical provider who's worked with amputees has seen that there's a variety of coping mechanisms out there when dealing with tragedy (some folks are far more graceful/gracious/classy than others!)

As for the hero in the story...who wouldn't fall in love with Jake Dalton?? That doctor has the freakin' patience and perseverance of a saint for this mulish woman! Hot, sexy AND useful!...did I mention noble and charming? If nothing else, I found myself wanting to read the book to the end just to make sure that man found happiness and all the other good sappy stuff he deserves!
