- CycleOps PowerSync ANT+ Trainer
- One Size
Made in the USA;Built with 100% recyclable, non-rusting materials;Electronic resistance unit allows for programmable workouts. Controlled resistance lets you set your slope, power, and other metrics
Levels of resistance
Old: fixed numbers (7) of resistance
New: variable resistance (almost infinite number, see below)
Old: Topped at the seventh level (around 350 watts)
New: I have not seen the maximum resistance yet (I would guess close to 900 watts)
Old: acceptable at low speed (below 20mph or 30km/h)
New: quiet at low speed but increases linearly with speed over 20mph
Calculation of power
Old: none on the trainer, only if your bike is equipped with
New: comes with it and is much more useful than the speed as a training data; its accuracy is +/- 5%, which is very reasonable
How it feels to ride on it
Old: couldn't ever be more boring
New: the addition of the online Virtual Training is AWESOME (with a fairly-priced monthly subscription)! You can ride your bike indoors with the sensation of being outside. The resistance will adjust to your ride, including up and downhills. When you go downhill, it really feels like it. The speed displayed on the screen (tablet, iphone or computer) is adjusted. This comes even more realistic than the sport watches which display only the speed of the wheel.
Overall, the price is high but it's worth every penny spent. I feel very real, especially with the videos from the online Virtual Training. It calculates the power, adjusts the resistance to gains and descents. It simply feels like being outside (minus the weather... maybe it'll come for a new version! :P). It's a great trainer and I would recommend it to any serious athlete out there, whether they are amateurs or professionals.
Important note: It does NOT come with the ANT+ USB, so you need to purchase it. This indoor bike trainer can synchronise with several models of ANT+ (Garmin, Polar, etc.). Moreover, it is highly recommended to have a indoor biking tire, which can be bought for a fair price.
