Just recently I was talking to a friend and Dr. Rubenstein came up casually in conversation. "Dr IAN Rubenstein?" my friend asked. "I KNOW him, he's a MEDIUM!".
"Well, actually I thought he was an extra large" I quipped, and there followed a lot of French and Saunders type banter. Then the penny dropped "What do you mean he's a medium?". I was stunned. I was also intrigued. A few words from the good doctor when I was 15 years old had stayed with me and put me on the path that led to my current profession. I new him to be wise, careful and curious. So this was a turn up for the books.
I bought the book there and then. I was NOT disappointed. Ian Rubenstein writes with a strong authorial voice I was just as amazed to find him on this path, as he very evidently was, and possibly still is. Because of his conversational style, reading this book was like having a chat with a friend I hadn't seen in ages - with me quickly cancelling all current engagements to catch up with all the news.
The book won't tell you how to become a medium, nor how to develop your own psychic abilities. But in reading it you may very recognise experiences of your own and wonder what they mean in light of what you have read. Or you might not.
Regardless of whether you believe or do not believe - interestingly Dr Rubenstein is not a believer - is a very interesting insight into spiritualism, mediumship and the synchronous experiences of those around him. You might want to treat yourself to this book, or perhaps buy it for someone who you think might enjoy it. Whatever reason you have for buying in, you might also be pleased to know that the royalties for this book go to cancer charities.
The book is very well written. It records his own story and does not try to convert the reader. He explains how sceptical how he was at the outset and documents his journey to his belief. He does question his experience at times and also recognises that there are a lot of fraudsters in the field.
Having watched the programme and now read his book I certainly believe that Dr Rubenstein is a genuine man and I am not sure how these things work but certainly there is something which sets him apart from the norm and enables him to help people in ways beyond just being a GP.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was extremely well written and gave great insight into the actions of a doctor learning the ropes in the spiritual world. Intriguing. Absorbing. Thought-provoking. Interesting ending - definitely not a conclusion - but entirely fitting in this case.
Ian was sceptical, at first but his guides showed him the way to help others in need.
The book has helped with my recent personal loss and hope it helps others to believe in the other side. My belief is now confirmed. Thank you so much.
