Uniquely positioned through, first, her own business career and then her links with Jardine Matheson she gives her own perspective of a period of change in Asia. It makes for a very interesting read.
I have read a couple of negative reviews for the book, each to his own. But I highly recommend this book, it is charming.
I believe this will go down as a seriously useful and important "go to" book for anyone wishing to understand the region, its culture, geography and history.
For good reasons she needs to tread lightly on some of the country’s more disturbing human rights issues. She doesn’t avoid them totally but somehow the book is stronger for it as it allows us to make those judgements from other sources. She doesn’t feel this is the place to tackle such subjects.
Few have set out to discover so much and so we’re offered a unique and experienced take on a region that is so alien to the West and little understood by the outside world and yet all are forever being increasingly effected by it.
Anyone wishing to understand about China has to read this unique and original work.
