Honestly, I wanted to like this book but there were just too many inconsistencies and things that just plain didn't makes sense. People have mentioned the problem with physics but it went beyond that for me. Earth has FTL, enemy doesn't and we're getting our asses handed to us? Then there was the military structure. If any "cadet" had talked to superior officers like the characters in this book did, they would have been in the brig, not sent off to fight aliens.

If you enjoy reading military sci-fi for either the military or sci-fi aspects, you'll be disappointed. I've seen others refer to it as Space Opera but it isn't even that. This was a teen angst book where the characters just happened to be military cadets in the middle of an alien invasion.
