I feel like I've been through an emotional wringer in the last 2 days. I cannot imagine many traumas as debilitating as rape and its consequences, both to the victim (in this case Grace) and their families (personified by Ben here). And yet the damage to the person, the utter despair and feelings of unworthiness, guilt and self-directed blame on the one hand; and the truth that everyone deserves second chances, love and respect are universal concepts. I felt this was a difficult topic sensitively handled and extremely well told.
Meet Grace, a sad soul who a year ago was raped by her now ex boyfriend. She is just existing day to day living with nightmares and in constant fear. A chance meeting with Ben, a councillor/self defense tutor, brings about a whole new Grace.
I love Sibel's books and this is no different. I found it hard to put down. I finished it in 2 days. Fabulous characters who you can sympathise with. Both have a back story and the book is written from the perspective of both of them. The story flows really well that way and I really didn't want it to end.
Wow what a book! I can't think of much to say....just read everyone elses reviews and double it! Extremely thought provoking and I couldn't put it down. Didn't take long to finish this as it was so good. I actually had tears in my eyes at the end. Give it a go
