Bonkers 15: Legends of the Core Box set, Import
Featuring 75 tracks of upfront hardcore with massive tracks from Darren Styles, CLSM, Gammer, Ephexis and many more, including the underground anthems "Dropzone," "Bring the Noise" and "Sensory Vision" and other new/exclusive material. Also new in the Bonkers series is a brand new look created by "The Extremist" (Marvel Comics, Transformers and Masters of the Universe)!
Disc one starts off hard and keeps it pumping the whole time. Hixxy and Re-Con do an amazing mix of "love comes" that makes you jump all the way through. "Enjoy" by Re-Con is probably my favorite tune on the whole album, such a fantastic uplifting melody much in the vein as tracks like "make the beat drop" by Scott Brown. Using "Love Garden" as the final track also makes for an excellent outro. Great mix on this disc, doesn't disappoint at all.
Disc two, the freeform disc, is so freaking fantastic. The energy NEVER lets down, even when it goes to songs that slow it down like "Workin up a sweat" by Ham. CLSM and CUBE::HARD really steal the show early on with "See you on the other side". Awesome songs mixed in an awesome order makes this one of the most fun and interesting freeform discs in the entire bonkers catalog.
Disc three, the Gabber disc, is cool I guess. Gabber isn't really my thing so I don't want to say anything bad about it, though there are gabber tracks I enjoy at the end of a lot of other bonkers albums. I'm just not gonna say much about it because if you enjoy gabber you'll probably like this disc.
Disc four, the Dougal and Gammer disc, definitely stands out from the rest of this album. Starting off with "Tell me a Story" is a great way to get you excited for the rest of the mix. Putting "Sensory Vision, Pt 2" right in the middle of this mix was a fantastic choice as well, easily one of the best tracks on the disc. Such hard hitting synths and that awesome snare that sounds like a log being split, damn it's so freaking hard and awesome. Also, going straight into "Dropzone" afterwards? Holy crap, simply amazing. Once again, CLSM kind of steals the show with "Heey" at the end, such an amazing fast and exciting track.
I could go on and on about how fantastic this album is but I think I'll just leave it at that. If you're a fan of hardcore, a fan of Bonkers, or are just getting into hardcore for the first time and want to see what it's all about, this album is a must have. Buy it.
Also, Sharkey and Marc Smith's disc is really great as well.
Hixxy & Re-Con's mix: This mix starts off strong with the five tracks, and then just seems to level out for the rest of the mix, except for "Speak of Love" and "21st Century Rush". The tempo is ~180 bpm, so that was a nice energy kick for the mix. My top track is "Love Comes". This mix also has the anthem, "See The Light(Sy & Unknown Remix)" and "Dance Me". There is also a "megamix" of two Scott Brown tracks by Kevin Energy called "Trance Sect/Lost Generation". I really think it was unnecessary for a back to back mix when both DJs are pulling for the same record label.
Sharkey & Marc Smith's mix: For the most part, the mix is Freeform, but, to surprise, there are some Happy Hardcore tracks on here! "Take Control", "Count of Three", and "Workin' Up A Sweat" are my top tracks (because these are the Happy Hardcore ones.)
Scott Brown & Neophyte's mix: Pure Gabber. It would have been better if the mix had been a bit faster like the old Rotterdam Gabber.
Dougal & Gammer's mix: This is my favorite mix in the bundle. The tempo is about ~175 bpm, and I believe this is due to Gammer being on board. Lots of vocal tunes on this mix with "All The Tears I've Cried" being my top favorite, and some more rougher tunes towards the end with tracks like "Heey", "Gir(Arkitech Remix)", and "Let's All Say ****". I really wish "Show Me A Sign" would have gotten longer air play.
An overall good album that has something for all Hardcore fans.
Hixxy & Re-Con: We get a 180 BPM Happy Hardcore frenzy! The mix starts off great! Then sorda lets down around the middle, and picks back up at the end.
Sharkey & Marc Smith: A mixture of Freeform/Trancecore, and suprisingly, Happy Hardcore!
Scott Brown & Neophyte: This mix is for all you Gabber heads. Starts off slow, ends fast!
Dougal & Gammer: Happy Hardcore! Not just your new Happy Hardcore, but the cheesey good kind! The best track on here to me was "My Star" (Brisk & Vegabond Remix). The last 2 songs on the mix, we get some boardeline Gabber-Trancecore (I guess you could call it Gabber, just with more melody).
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is becuase of the Gabber mix and the let down in Hixxy & Re-Con's mix. Too much "sped-up trance songs".
Hixxy & Re-Con- This CD has some very fast intense songs with great leads and nice lenghts, but has some un-needed filler songs.
Sharkey & Marc-Smith- Im not a huge fan of these guys and i wasnt very impressed with this CD. There were two maybe three killer songs, but the rest were just extremely fast and easily forgetable.
Scott Brown & Neophyte- Im very new to Gabber, and this CD made me very interested in it. I looked forward to some of Scott Brown's hardcore, but i only got deep dark gabber. It is a very aquired taste--I dont think everyone will-- but i personally loved this CD.
Dougal & Gammer- these guys are the ultimate team, and i absolutely love their hardcore. this CD was mostly happy-core so i was very disapointed. Its part of the reason that i gave this set a 4/5 star, but i liked the CD regardless of its happy style.
