Beautiful artwork

From my perspective as a parent to a 2.5 year old, I strive to find books with inspiring stories and beautiful artwork. Sometimes I will find one but not both qualities in a book. For me, this is one of those cases. The artwork is beautiful as you can tell just from the cover however, the story didn't do it for me. It will have the same phrase on each page with different meaning. This was confusing to explain to my little one. I'm sure for older children this opens up room for dialogue to dive in deeper about the beautiful visuals and the message behind them. But, unfortunately was not what I was hoping for. I'm giving it 4 stars nonetheless because there is nothing wrong with this book, just wouldn't have purchased at this point in time had I read it previously. I included a few random photos of the images and text inside of the book in hopes that this would show what I'm referring to and help someone else to decide for themselves.

Interesting book

The book arrived in good condition. The illustrations are lovely. I had to read the book twice before I understood what it was saying. That wasn't a bad thing. It forces the reader to really look at the pictures and think about the wording on the page and what it really means. It is a great book to stimulate a conversation between the reader and another person be it an adult or a group of children. It proves that words can have a dual meaning even though they read the same way. That is something the world needs to hear right now. It proves that there is more than one way to look at something. The book is being sent to the VFW National Home For Children in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

Okay. This book took me by surprise. It's so simple, so powerful. It's the most gorgeous book I've read in a very long time. It made the tears spring into my eyes. I plan to purchase a copy for each of my grandchildren and will squirrel it away as a gift for my husband who served 26 years in the Army.

What an amazing book. I read this with a class of first graders. Each page brought such wonderful partner and whole group discussions. Don't let the few words in the book cause you to hesitate to read it to children. Beautifully done!
