They met at high school…
She’s a good girl, and she’s never had a boyfriend before, but when she’s forced to change school her life takes a new direction. He’s eighteen, with Swedish blue eyes and a talent for truancy and trouble. He’s the kind of boy that ought to come with a health warning. She’s doing the costumes for the summer show, and he’s chosen to be the lead singer. When he sings to her for the very first time, the effect on her is electric...

First of all, I thought the cover of this book was very misleading. I anticipated this to be another teen romance, with a vapid protagonist bemoaning inconsequential high school drama. I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't. It's set in the UK, which gives it a grittier and less glossy feel, making it refreshing for a change of pace and tone. Our two, young, main characters are believable, and far from perfect, and this book is a real behind-the-scenes look into family life and problems which exist beyond the front and behind closed doors.
Following the story of two teenagers who take steps far too early into adult life, a life which they are ill-equipped to deal with emotionally, financially, and every other way imaginable, it goes further and deeper than I expected, which was another refreshing change, and a wonderful experience. I found myself really caring about these two, internally cheering when they did something right, and groaning when they made stupid mistakes. There were times when I wished I could pull them aside and give them a good talking to, a true sign that the author sucked me in completely to this story.
There are one or two tiny errors, but not enough to interrupt the flow, or to diminish the power of the story. It lost that final star because now and again, some of the writing felt a teensy bit flat, as if the author wasn't quite as enthused about a particular section. For the length of the book, they were few and far between, but a spark could have been added here and there to really bring those words on screen to life.

Beautiful

I love reading stories in which the underdog prevails. Becky comes from a wealthy background but Martin isn't deterred. It was love at first sight for him and he is determined to have Becky in his life. Becky's father, a stern cruel man, has other ideas. But he can't stop Martin. It's a wonderful, feel-good story. I loved it.

This book was not at all what I expected from the cover picture. It was so much more! 1Martin loved Becky from the beginning. They were from very different worlds. Becky needed Martin torescue her and he did at great risk to himself. She realized she loved him too and the story gets better from that point. They overcome many problems and even a tragedy, only becoming a stronger couple. I loved the ending!!! Please don't let the cover and the first few pages prevent you from finishing the book, you'll be rewarded in the end!

Love this book

The ups and downs in this book are awesome. Boy who comes from normal family and is a rebel falls in love with a rich girl who goes to a regular school. Becky and Martin are opposites that are attracted to each. He rescues her from an abusive situation. The emotions are all over in this book and it leaves the reader wondering what is going to happen next. Love it.
